Chapter 9
(Bette) There’s nothing to talk about.
(Tina) Bette
Bette pauses and rubs her forehead for a moment.
(Bette) Tina I don’t expect any special treatment from you, and obviously I won’t be getting any. It’s fine. But I certainly don’t feel like having dinner.
(Tina) I would like to talk about it, properly. Please come over tonight.
(Bette) I need to go. I’ll speak to you another time.
Bette ends the call.
That evening, Tina’s apartment. Tina answers the door to Bette. Tina smiles at her nervously and Bette stares back at her.
(Tina) I’m glad you came
(Bette) You wanted to talk about it and I’ll listen to what you have to say, and then I’m going to go.
(Tina) Ok, can you come in?
Bette enters and they walk through to the kitchen. Bette sits at the island bench and Tina pours two glasses of wine, placing one in front of Bette and taking a seat opposite her.
Bette picks up the paper sitting on the bench in front of her, looking again at the headline on the front page. She then looks up at Tina and speaks coldly.
(Bette) This is a huge story for you. You must be getting a lot of praise.
Tina sighs and has a sip of wine.
(Bette) Some of these corruptions are staggering. There’ll be a lot of resignations in the next few days I’d imagine.
(Tina) Yes, I’d imagine
(Bette) And some good people will be lost to this too
(Tina) And some good people with relatively minor conflicts will weather the storm
(Bette) That’s how you justify my inclusion, is it?
Bette picks up her wine and stands up, moving away from Tina and leaning against the kitchen counter. She has a sip of wine and stands in silence for a moment, as Tina watches her carefully. Bette looks downwards and concentrates on her wine glass as she continues talking.
(Bette) This is the article you’ve been working around the clock on I guess? That’s been keeping you from me? With you calling me from the office late at night telling me how much you miss me?
Tina sighs and continues looking at her, bracing herself.
Bette meets her eyes and speaks with venom in her voice.

So this is where everything comes to a head… *Sigh*… I understand Tina’s point and I also get why Bette’s so angry. This is why it’s impossible for a politician and a true journalist to be in a relationship: conflicts of interest. As Tina said, Bette will probably weather the political storm. I’m more concerned if their relationship will survive this major change. Is that the end of their affair? I hope not. I hope they’ll talk again when everything has calmed down.
I’m scared to think this could end in a heartbreak not only for Bette and Tina but for all of us hopeless Tibette fans out here. But as I’ve said in my previous comment at another ungodly hour, I hope you’ll find the time and inspiration to continue writing and sharing this well-written story, katynd! I promise to keep on reading until the hopefully distant, not-so-bitter end. Thank you so much for this, katynd, and have a lovely weekend!:)

Wow, this is their fork in the road. Is this why Bette walked away before? Corruption , however minute, is corruption. I think Tina was naive to think that starting their relationship over would not be demanding at best. Keep up the great writing and bring us to a strong ending. I hope you are a true Tibetter. PPS

This is the proverbial fork in the road for them. Tough being on opposite sides professionally.
