    Jade hadn’t moved from where she stood while Rian stripped, disbelieving what she could see happening in front of her. She could only stare mutely at the hourglass figure that was now doing the backstroke, swimming slowly away from her. After a few more strokes Rian stopped swimming and simply allowed herself to just float

    Jade hadn’t moved from where she stood while Rian stripped, disbelieving what she could see happening in front of her. She could only stare mutely at the hourglass figure that was now doing the backstroke, swimming slowly away from her.

    After a few more strokes Rian stopped swimming and simply allowed herself to just float on the water, keeping a slow leg kick going to keep her lower body afloat, while she circled her arms slowly under water to keep her upper body floating.   With nothing coming between her skin and the clear mountain lake water, she felt as if all her senses were melting into the water; only the cloudless blue sky above and the Grand Tetons in the distant horizon were keeping her company.

    It’s so peaceful out here. I feel like I could just lie in this water and float around til nightfall.

    After a while, she felt a playful tug on one of her toes. She smiled and gently kicked the hand away. After a few seconds, she felt a stronger tug on several toes, this time, and then Jade’s head popped up right beside hers.

    She shook her head and splashed some water on Jade’s face just as Jade flicked her hair back and wiped her face off. Rian felt two arms encircle her loosely as she “sat up” and started to thread water just like Jade was.

    They stared at each other for a while before Jade said softly, “I never said I wasn’t interested … you just assumed I wasn’t.”

    Rian cracked a small smile and encircled her arms around Jade’s neck. She felt the strong arms partially tuck under her elbows and wrap around her back loosely, to help her keep floating.

    As her fingers played with hair in Jade’s nape she fixed a long look at those emerald eyes, and she answered softly, “And I never said I was straight.”

    Those mesmerizing eyes widened in surprise. Rian murmured, “In this light your eyes have a touch of cerulean blue mixed with a summer green … so amazing!”

    “Don’t change the subject,” Jade said sharply, sputtering. “What do you mean you’re not straight?!”

    Rian smiled at her as she ran her fingers through that slick jet-black hair, tucking the bangs that normally fell sexily across Jade’s brow behind a perfect ear.

      Caveats for the next chapters: there will be references to scenes and characters in “Let It Happen,” “Love Soul Heaven Hell”, “Empire State of Mind”, and “Nobis Pacem”. As a rule I try to write each chapter in a way that stands on its own, but you will understand the mindsets of the characters that appear in the chapter, or the backdrop of the scene, if you are at least somewhat aware of the other books. Apologies in advance if a scene or dialogue doesn’t seem to make sense. I will try to embed links to relevant segments of the above-mentioned books to help you “bounce” to them .

      As always, do let me know by pm, comment, or other means what you think. Helps me to know if what I’m writing is making passable sense, at least.
