Chapter I – Yes, I’m Ready
Surprisingly, Jade didn’t blush in response. Or didn’t blush as deeply as they’d expected her to. Instead, Jade grinned back at them. “You like it?”
Bette and Tina exchanged surprised glances at her smooth response, before Bette answered, “Yes, actually. Really nice. What is it?”
“Armani Prive Oud Royal. They call it liquid gold in a bottle.”
Before they could say anything in response, Jade stepped out of the room, and pulled the door behind them with a quick, authoritative tug on the door and whirled the metal key around a finger, before tucking it into a pocket of her distressed jeans. For tonight, she’d exchanged her Chuck Los with a pair of strappy sandals.
Her jet black hair was gelled and brushed back slickly but left a few strands hanging loosely over her brow. Surprisingly, she wore smoky eye make-up and a statement red shade of lipstick.
She wore a pair of “wife-beater” style tops, a brown one over a black one, which she partially tucked into her painted-on jeans. Instead of a belt, she’d looped a bright green scarf around the band of her jeans, and the ends of it hang loosely over a lean muscled thigh.
With a smile at both, she led the way down the paved path that led to the main building of the lodge. She walked with a certain swagger, swinging her shoulders, head held high, straight-backed, whistling still.
She looked and smelled like she wanted to slay someone tonight.
Tina nodded her head with approval and grinned. Wow! Something’s happened to Jade since we last saw her – and that was just this morning! Something good, it looks like. Bette had said something electric had happened when she’d met Rian. Could she be the reason?
“So … did you have a good day today?” the blonde asked her cousin.
Jade spun her head around to look at them as she continued walking, and laughed lightly. “You could say that!”
She knew her cologne suited the coolness of the evening. And its sensual quality heightened the indeterminate nature of the overall cologne, since it was one of those colonges that were for both men and women. The broad point was that if it suited your skin, it was a knockout scent. And it suited Jade perfectly.

Caveats for the next chapters: there will be references to scenes and characters in “Let It Happen,” “Love Soul Heaven Hell”, “Empire State of Mind”, and “Nobis Pacem”. As a rule I try to write each chapter in a way that stands on its own, but you will understand the mindsets of the characters that appear in the chapter, or the backdrop of the scene, if you are at least somewhat aware of the other books. Apologies in advance if a scene or dialogue doesn’t seem to make sense. I will try to embed links to relevant segments of the above-mentioned books to help you “bounce” to them .
As always, do let me know by pm, comment, or other means what you think. Helps me to know if what I’m writing is making passable sense, at least.
