    “KC?” Ali asked. “Is that short for something?”

    “KC and the Sunshine Band,” Natasha explained, smiling and then shaking her head. “I’m sure you’ll recognize their songs when the band plays them during the reception. But they play all the popular wedding songs.”

    “Here’s the first one,” Teri announced without fanfare.

    Listen as your day unfolds, challenge what the future holds …Try and keep your head up to the sky … Lovers, they may cause your tears … Go ahead release your fears, stand and be counted … don’t be ashamed to cry…

    “Oooohhh like that one!” Bette cooed. “Cool!”

    “Honey, isn’t that one of the songs Kit is insisting we include in our wedding?” Tina asked, nudging Bette’s ribs.

    Natasha leaned over to ask Bette, “You two getting married soon?!”

    Bette nodded, and flashed her trademark thousand watt smile.

    Natasha asked loudly, “Why don’t you two get up and dance to this? Give it a “test drive!”

    Ali jumped in, “Yeah, Bette and Tina! Show us what the song looks like when two people in love are dancing to it!”

    Tina’s eyes were sparkling, clearly into it, as she swayed to the music. Bette narrowed her eyes as she looked more closely at her fiancée. She leaned over, “Baby, how many of those brownies did you eat anyway?”

    Tina answered with a wink, “Too many, I think!”

    She jumped up from the couch, “C’mon babe. I feel like dancing!”

    She pulled on a reluctant Bette’s arm, as the women around them shouted their encouragement also.

    You gotta be hard, you gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger … You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm, you gotta stay together … All I know, all I know, love will save the day.

    “She’s really good,” Pauli told Natasha as she sat on the space in the couch Tina vacated.

    Meanwhile, over in the far corner where Rian, Jade, and the group that they’d been with were standing, some women were encouraging Jade and Rian to dance also. “Hey you two,” said the woman who’d given Jade the potent drink earlier, “they’re getting that beautiful couple to dance. Why don’t you join them?”

    “Yeah, Rian! Go shake that booty Max is so proud of!” someone else shouted.

      Caveats for the next chapters: there will be references to scenes and characters in “Let It Happen,” “Love Soul Heaven Hell”, “Empire State of Mind”, and “Nobis Pacem”. As a rule I try to write each chapter in a way that stands on its own, but you will understand the mindsets of the characters that appear in the chapter, or the backdrop of the scene, if you are at least somewhat aware of the other books. Apologies in advance if a scene or dialogue doesn’t seem to make sense. I will try to embed links to relevant segments of the above-mentioned books to help you “bounce” to them .

      As always, do let me know by pm, comment, or other means what you think. Helps me to know if what I’m writing is making passable sense, at least.
