Chapter I – Yes, I’m Ready
“Rian-Jade! Rian-Jade!” a chant started in the group.
Jade leaned over to whisper, “Don’t mind them. They’ve all clearly had too many brownies and too much to drink also!”
She was about to add something but paused when she caught a naughty glimmer in Rian’s eyes. Uh oh.
Rian tugged on Jade’s arm to drag her past the crowd of women that was lining the dance floor. She winked and nearly shouted over the din of clapping and singing, “Good a time as any for our first dance, right? Hardly anyone will remember it … being stoned and drunk!”
But as they reached the edge of the floor, and Rian had snaked around Jade’s neck and Jade started to playfully tug her closer to her body, they heard Ali’s voice come up right beside them, “I think this dance is mine, don’t you?”
They drew apart with a start. They simultaneously look around and noticed that, thankfully, the dance floor had steadily filled with others who wanted to dance to the song also, so their approach towards the dance floor had probably gone unnoticed.
Rian let her arms fall from Jade’s neck unhurriedly and stepped away, and then answered, “Of course it is.” She smiled at Ali, and winked at Jade, “Don’t worry. I never date anyone prettier than I am. She’s very safe with you.”
Jade blew out an unsteady breath as Ali stepped into her arms. The next song was a swing song, so Ali stepped away from her light embrace and started to sway vigorously to the beat of the song.
After the next song, Natasha walked over to where they were dancing and leaned closer to Ali, half-shouting, so that she could be heard over the music, ““Ali, Pauli’s asked if you could join me in the lobby. I think the florist won’t be able to truck over the flowers tomorrow night, and we’ll need to talk to her about whether we should push the ceremony back by a few hours to give her time to truck them over early in the morning of the wedding day, or …”
Ali blew out an exasperated breath. “This is never ending!” she exclaimed and grasped her head with both hands.
Natasha shrugged helplessly. With a grimace Ali stepped closer to Jade and gave her a deep kiss. “Gotta go, honey,” she said.

Caveats for the next chapters: there will be references to scenes and characters in “Let It Happen,” “Love Soul Heaven Hell”, “Empire State of Mind”, and “Nobis Pacem”. As a rule I try to write each chapter in a way that stands on its own, but you will understand the mindsets of the characters that appear in the chapter, or the backdrop of the scene, if you are at least somewhat aware of the other books. Apologies in advance if a scene or dialogue doesn’t seem to make sense. I will try to embed links to relevant segments of the above-mentioned books to help you “bounce” to them .
As always, do let me know by pm, comment, or other means what you think. Helps me to know if what I’m writing is making passable sense, at least.
