    Tina turns and walks into her hotel.

     

    Chapter 2

    A month later, Tina sits at her desk and distractedly answers her desk phone.

    (Tina) Tina Kennard

    (Bette) I only have a moment but I have a proposition for you

    (Tina pauses) Is this a professional or a personal proposition?

    (Bette smiles) I like where your mind is going but unfortunately this particular proposition is professional.

    (Tina) I’m listening

    (Bette) I have some information for you, I think it’ll be of interest to you

    (Tina) OK

    (Bette) Ford is voting against his party on Resolution 96

    (long pause)

    (Tina) Bette if that’s true then that information is of interest to every thinking US citizen

    (Bette) And even the non-thinking ones I would imagine. (Pause) It’s true

    (Tina) OK, why are you telling me this?

    (Bette) Because there’s something I need from you

    (Tina) Are we still talking professionally?

    (Bette smiles) We are.

    (Tina) Well I know you haven’t been in this game for long, but usually you hold onto your information until I agree to what you need

    (Bette) I’ll keep that in mind

    (Tina) Well?

    (Bette) If you do this for me I’ll go on record and confirm his move

    (Tina) I’m still listening

    (Bette) I need information on the leaking of the draft opinion from the Supreme Court

    (Tina) You’re kidding right? You know I can’t do that

    (Bette) I do. I’m not expecting you to tell me who, but I need to know if you know who it was.

    Tina pauses, considering her position.

    (Tina) You’ll go on record?

    (Bette) I will

    (Tina) And who would you be sharing this information with?

    (Bette) No one

    (Tina) OK then, sure. I know.

    (Bette) With certainty?

    (Tina) Yes.

    (Bette rubs her forehead) Thanks Tee.

    Tina smiles at the familiar term of endearment.

    (Tina) Watch your back Bette.

    (Bette) Always.

    They both hang up, and Tina sits for a moment and reflects on how natural it would have felt to call her ’Baby’ just then.

     

    A week later, Bette is exiting her office building in New York and watching her limousine approach the curb, when her cell rings

    2. Great beginning!

      So Bette as a senator and Tina some journalist and were together for four years before they broke up?! And it seems Bette is the one who played the big role in that due to her not willing to compromise.

      Look forward to read more!
