    Chapters 4-6

(Tina) Do you want to talk about work? Or better to just tune off?

(Bette) I think just tune off if that’s ok. It’s all a bit overwhelming at the moment to be honest, and it’s nice not thinking about it for a while.

Tina nods and continues lightly stroking Bette’s hair.

(Tina) I have some other conversation options, do you want to hear them?

    (Bette laughs) Sure

(Tina) Well, I have some mindless gossip about our friends.

Bette gives her a subtle glance, enjoying the reference to their shared friends.

(Tina) Don’t look at me like that Porter, I’m not pulling a Fatal Attraction on you and claiming your friends, I meant gossip involving a friend of yours and a friend of mine

    (Bette smiles) I wasn’t worried

    (Tina) Sure

(Bette) Well I might have some intel to offer on that as well, I happen to know that a friend of mine is planning on asking out a friend of yours

(Tina) Oh shit, I hope it’s the same friend

    (Bette) Well, wouldn’t it be?

(Tina) Well my intel is that a friend of mine slept with a friend of yours

    (Bette cringes) Oh no

They both take a gulp of their wine.

    (Tina) Stay out of it?

(Bette) Good idea. You had another topic?

(Tina) Well yes, actually. (Takes another sip of her wine) I have a work function on Thursday night, it’s just drinks and canapes really at my boss’ house. We’re welcoming some new team members. I was wondering if maybe you’d like to go with me?

Bette looks at her for a second.

    (Bette) Really?

Tina looks back, a little confused by her response.

(Tina) Yes, really. Wow that’s certainly not a resounding yes.

(Bette) I’m sorry, I’m just surprised.

(Tina) Why? We’re dating right? You’d be my date.

Bette looks down at the glass in her hand and plays with the stem for a moment before responding.

    (Bette) Can I be honest?

    (Tina) Of course

(Bette) I’m finding what we’re doing here a little confusing.

Tina looks at her and tries to hide her hurt at Bette’s reaction to what she thought was an exciting step forward for them.

(Tina) Ok. What exactly is confusing you?

One of the best lines – “Let’s see if I can’t help you with some of that stress.” Perfect Tina!

I’ll be looking forward to reading your future stories. Thanks for this!
