Chapters 4-6
Bette pauses and tries to think how to word what she’s feeling. She is so sure of what she wants with Tina – a future, and everything that that entails. And while she doesn’t want to scare Tina off she is also finding the slow pacing of their dating, with zero real discussion of how they’re both feeling, completely at odds with such a public declaration of their togetherness. She’s also starting to worry that the physical side to their relationship may be something Tina will never be ready for.
(Bette) I’m just not really sure what we’re doing, or what you want. In some ways it feels like it’s moving forward and in others kind of like it’s stalled
Tina looks at her for a moment.
(Bette) I’m not talking about sex
(Tina) I think you are talking about sex
(Bette) No, really it’s not about that. It’s that, well, I think going to a work event with you is in my mind something a partner does, not a date.
Tina feels like she has been slapped. In her mind this was a step towards exactly that, becoming partners. Bette’s reaction tells her that that is seemingly the last thing that she wants.
They sit in silence for a moment.
(Tina) I think I should go
(Bette) What? Please don’t go
Tina gets up and starts gathering her things.
(Bette) Baby, please. I don’t want you to go. Please. Stay.
Tina stops what she is doing and looks at her.
(Tina) You know, you’re really confusing too.
At that moment there is a loud knock on the front door. Bette sighs and reluctantly walks over to answer it. Bette opens the door to Shane standing on the porch with an apologetic look on her face.
(Bette sighs) Shane.
(Shane) Hey. I’m so sorry to barge in like this but we have a bit of a situation with Al and Dana (she glances over Bette’s shoulder towards Tina in the lounge) And I guess Jess too, indirectly.
(Bette) Yeah I think I might have some idea what you’re talking about
(Shane) I hate to ask you but can you come? I’m totally out of my depth here.
Bette looks at her desperate friend for a moment and sighs.

Great story! I so enjoyed it, and your writing.
One of the best lines – “Let’s see if I can’t help you with some of that stress.” Perfect Tina!
