    Hole We Call L.A.

    Dani “Bette. Your phone.”

Caught up in the visuals on the other side of the window, Bette is now reminded that her cellphone is ringing on vibrate. Reaching into her pocket, she pulls the phone out and places it on speaker, immediately recognizing who it is.

    Bette “Tee.”

On the other end of the conversation, somewhere in New York is Tina Kennard, mother of Angelica along with Bette and also Bette’s ex. Bette can hear screaming and panic in the distance.

Bette “Tina, are you seeing what’s happening here? And what’s happening there?”

Tina “Bette, the red skies are everywhere! It’s not just us and the weather’s getting crazy!”

Bette can feel the panic in Tina’s voice. As Tina talks, Dani is powering on the television and it is on CNN. Images of devastation worldwide and red skies dominate the news.

Tina “We’re all trying to reach whatever highest floor we can, New York’s being flooded. They’re talking about something hitting the other side of the world!”

    Dani “Bette, look at this.”

Bette averts her eyes from the window to the television and she can see the images as reports of the Eastern Hemisphere appearing to be wiped out. Mayoral hopes and relationship issues fall away as catastrophe looms.

    Bette “Tina…”

    Tina “Where’s Angelica???”

Bette “She’s at home, I’ve tried-”

Tina “I can’t get her on the phone!!! Shit!!!”

    Bette “Tina! Tina, what happened???”

    The call dies out.

    Bette “Fuck!”

Bette looks over to Dani, who is doing her best to contain her own emotions.

Dani “I need to call Sophie.”

Bette nods, understanding completely as Dani has her phone ready to call her fiancee.
