    It’s the last night and then time to go home.

     

    ‘No, of course not.’

     

    ‘Then just look me in the eye and tell me you don’t want to be with Bette and I’ll be right there to help one of you move out.’

     

    * * * * *

     

    Tina found Bette lying across the bed with a box of work papers beside her.  She thought how like Bette to be in the middle of a personal crisis and still be focused enough to deal with work.  She moved closer and recognized things she had given Bette.  She never knew she had kept any of these things, how sweet and sentimental.  She noticed the storybooks and picked one up.  “Monkeys Go On Strike”, she remembered Bette wanting to get this for the baby.  When had she done this?  She wondered if she should go out and make enough noise to wake Bette so she wouldn’t be “caught” with her keepsakes or if she should wake her and talk about this.

     

    ‘Tina?  I though you were going to call when you left Kit’s.’

     

    Tina sat on the side of the bed and brushed Bette’s hair away from her face and leaned down and kissed her cheek.

     

    ‘I never knew you kept all this.  Why didn’t you tell me?’

     

    ‘I don’t know, seems silly now.’

     

    ‘Can we talk about this?’

     

    ‘If you want.’

     

    ‘Why are you looking through it today?’

     

    Tears started to fill Bette’s eyes.

     

    Tina pulled her to her, ‘are you saying goodbye?’

     

    ‘I saw it when I was looking for something to wear and just started looking through it and fell asleep.’

     

    ‘Well, why don’t you get dressed and meet me in the living room, we have some things to talk about and I’d really like to get this over with.’

     

    Bette got dressed and walked into the living room.  Tina was sitting in the chair so Bette took the sofa.

     

    ‘You never said why you didn’t call when you left Kit’s’

     

    ‘I just wanted to get here as soon as I could I guess and while you’re wondering I know you asked Kit to call, I asked her not to.’

     

    ‘Well, how do you want to do this?’

    6. I was holding my breathe the entire story with a pit in my tummy wondering what would happen. Great story, the loving make scene would be a great ending ;)
