    It’s the last night and then time to go home.

     

    ‘When did you talk to her?’

     

    ‘Last night after you called, do you know what you’re going to do?’

     

    ‘I think there will come a time that Bette will realize she wasn’t the only one responsible for our problems, we’ve already talked about it, and she’ll think of all the things she has done to try to remedy the problems and then she’s going to think about the night I found out, the way I treated her, and she’ll realize I’m not the person she fell in love with.  She’ll leave me.  I don’t think I would survive that.’

     

    ‘So you just leave her now?’

     

    ‘I had no right to treat her the way I did that night, she deserves’

     

    ‘Wait a minute.  Are you still in therapy?’

     

    ‘Yes.’

     

    ‘Have you addressed that night?’

     

    ‘Not really.’

     

    ‘Are you going to?’

     

    ‘I don’t think I can be with anyone until I do.’

     

    ‘So you are willing to work on this, so you can be with someone, just not Bette.’

     

    ‘Kit just listen…’

     

    ‘No you listen.  Bette has her own guilt about that night and feels she drove you to react the way you did.’

     

    ‘She never would have hurt me, I did hurt her.’

     

    ‘Don’t you think with everything you had been through, losing the baby, Faye Buckley and all the discord between the two of you that discovering Bette’s infidelity was just the last straw?’

     

    ‘It doesn’t justify what I did.’

     

    ‘I’m not trying to justify it, I’m trying to tell you there are times that people do things that are out of character.  Bette abhors people who are unfaithful and you abhor violence of any kind.  Can’t you see that whole situation was an aberration?  If you both work on what lead up to those events do you really believe anything like that will ever happen again?’

     

    ‘I just don’t know what to think anymore.’

     

    ‘Then think about this, I love the two of you, do you think I would want you to stay with someone who cheats on you or that I would want Bette to stay with someone who would be abusive?’
