I Need My Best Friend – Part 4
‘Hey.’
‘Hey yourself. You sound tired.’
‘Someone put me to work today.’
‘It was a good day though. Don’t you think?’
‘Yes, a very good day.’
‘You have a lot to talk about with Foxworthy tomorrow.’
‘Yes, I do. When do you see him again?’
‘Friday. Is it hard for you? Seeing Foxworthy?’
‘Not like it was. It’s something I should have done sooner, should have put more effort in to. I’m sorry I didn’t take it more seriously when we were going.’
‘I’m glad you’re trying now. I just wanted to call and say goodnight and thanks for today.’
‘I’m glad you called. It’s nice to hear your voice.’
‘It’s all right if you call me.’
‘It is?’
‘Anytime. Good night Bette.’
‘Good night Tina.’
Thursday
After Bette’s appointment with Foxworthy she stopped by The Planet. She needed a few minutes to reflect and regroup before heading off to work. She knew the regular crowd should be gone by now and she could sit on the patio and think about her session. Foxworthy had been encouraged that she had opened up to Tina and that they had managed to talk without arguing. They spoke more about how she always wanted to control things, her father’s influence in that regard and how to recognize her old patterns. He also asked her if she thought her behavior with Tina was too passive and out of character. She said she didn’t want to rock the boat and was glad Tina had agreed to try to work things out. He reminded her that Tina had said she wasn’t sure this would bring them back together and urged Bette to keep this in mind. The more she thought about it the more she convinced herself that maybe Tina had said something to give him that idea.
Tina had left some files at Alice’s that she needed for a meeting and on her way back to the Center had noticed Bette’s car at The Planet. She knew she had an early appointment with Foxworthy and wondered why she was there. She decided to stop and surprise her since she didn’t think they would see each other until Saturday.
As she neared Bette’s table she could tell something was wrong. She sat down next to her and took her hand, ‘Bette are you all right?’

Good one! I think it’s a little out of character but then again, who’s not going to be out of character after a big catastrophy in life. It shook Bette enough to change drastically. Good work!
