I Need My Best Friend – Part 4
‘Tina? What are you dong here?’
‘I saw your car as I was driving by and thought it odd that you were here in the middle of the morning.’
‘I needed some time after my appointment before going to work.’
‘I’m sorry I didn’t mean to intrude.’
Bette starting gathering her things, looked at Tina and said, ‘I have to go.’
‘Bette? Bette what’s wrong?’
‘I’m sorry Tina I really have to go. Later, all right?’
Bette was gone before Tina could respond. She knew how distant Bette could be when she was preoccupied. Something must have come up in her session.
Bette walked by James and said, ‘hold my calls, ALL my calls. I don’t want to be disturbed.’
She was driving herself crazy trying to figure out if Tina had said something to Foxworthy. Why didn’t she just ask her when she had the chance? Because she was too afraid of the answer, that’s why! An hour had passed and she was still sitting there trying to answer questions she had no answers to. She had to snap out of this, she had entirely too much work to do. She couldn’t believe she had been so distracted this morning that she let the chance to spend of few unexpected moments with Tina slip by.
Tina had been thinking about Bette ever since she left The Planet. She had been distracted during her meeting and was glad it didn’t drag on. She was back at the Center but had not accomplished much, all she could think about was her chance meeting with Bette. She had found herself pleasantly excited to see Bette’s car at The Planet and was glad to have an opportunity to see her before Saturday. She wasn’t sure how to read Bette’s mood, she knew how difficult therapy was for her. The more she thought about it the more she felt something else was wrong. She called Bette’s cell and got her voice mail, ‘Bette, give me a call when you have a minute.’
Bette had managed to lose herself in work for the past few hours without thinking about Foxworthy, Tina or any conversation she had imagined them having. Now that things were winding down for the day her fears were ramping up. She was thinking about working late since she had nothing to do and nowhere to go. If she went home she would just obsess about Foxworthy’s comment and never be able to get to sleep. If she worked late maybe she would be so tired when she did get home she would fall right to sleep.

Good one! I think it’s a little out of character but then again, who’s not going to be out of character after a big catastrophy in life. It shook Bette enough to change drastically. Good work!
