I Need My Best Friend – Part 6

‘I wanted us to have a family and be happy.  I never wanted you to give up the things that made you happy.’

‘I wanted to take care of you and our family.’

‘You didn’t have to do it alone.  We should have been sharing that responsibility.’

‘I didn’t want you to think I couldn’t handle it, that you couldn’t depend on me.’

‘Bette, I love that you’re strong and self assured, but you don’t have to be that way all the time.’

‘I didn’t want you to worry.’

‘I would have given anything to have you come home, just once, and tell me that you needed me to hold you, to make love to you, to take care of you.’

‘But it was my job to make sure everything was taken care of.’

‘Who said?  It was our job to take care of each other.  Instead I just worried about not feeling very safe waiting for you to implode.’

    ‘I’m so sorry Tina.’

‘No Bette, I’m sorry.  I was so worried about not feeling safe and loved anymore that I never realized you weren’t feeling very safe or loved either.  I let you take all the responsibility and never saw what it was doing to you, to us.  So, it wasn’t just you that changed, we both changed.  As far as being able to feel safe and that you love me again, just because I stopped feeling it doesn’t mean it wasn’t still there.’

‘Why couldn’t I have just talked to you instead of cheating on you?’

‘I don’t know Bette, at least we’re talking now.’

‘That doesn’t change the fact that I cheated on you, on us.  How will you ever be able to forgive me?’

‘I think I’m more worried about you forgiving yourself.  It’s over now Bette, you can’t take it back and you can’t make it go away.  Believe me I’ve tried.  We just have to find a way past it.’

    ‘Tina’

‘I just need a minute Bette, just give me a minute.’

Tina got up, brushed her fingertips lightly across Bette’s cheek as she walked toward the house.  Bette could see Tina was desperately trying not to cry in front of her.  She wanted to go after her but felt it best to let her have some time to herself.

    2. Hey..You’re Back!! I have been eagerly waiting for your new chapter and couldn’t help but smile when I saw you posted a new one today! I really love your story and the conversations that Bette&Tina are having are so realistic and beautiful..it will take a while to heal but I hope they will find each other in the end..and asalways, as long as you write ’em..I will faithfully read ’em..I’m already hooked!..do much appreciate you taking the time to share this with us..

    3. Hey, welcome back! Nice to read your stories again. It’s a good approach to explore. I love the conversations they have. It’s still dramatic but it’s not melodramatic. Still moving and the friendship they have shines through though can’t forget the fact that they’re not meant to be just friends. waiting for the next…

    4. This is more realistic to me than the stories that have B&T splitting up. Of all the people I have seen deal with infidelity in their marriage, it is the couples that truly love each other that try to make the relationship work. They go through all possibilities in order not to leave any ‘what ifs’ lurking out there. Of the ones that have taken the aforementioned route, all the marriages have survived. You are doing a fantastic job with this story. Keep up the great work. I like the honesty between these two.

    5. hey! nice to have you here again… Good one… Bette was so sweet with Tina seven years ago… and tina has forgiven bette… really good… what’s gonna be tina’s question? surprise surprise…

    6. This is great. It’s good how they are talking like mature woman and clearing the air instead of holding it in when they don’t know the facts.

    7. Great great great, like Bete said ‘Why couldn’t I have just talked to you instead of cheating on you?’ good question but if you didn’t we never got a chance to read this Story

    8. As Always this was a wonderful chapter. They seem to be moving closer to finding each other again. Please keep writing. I look forward to reading each new chapter.

    9. I’m so happy you didn’t chuck this story! It is so realistic…how I imagine 2 people who love each other find their way back. I am so enjoying this please go on…soon!

    10. Tina jumps to conclusions as quickly as Bette does. They are both so afraid of losing each other. Wonderful writing if u ever read these comments; I just wanted u to know.
