She knocked lightly on the door before peeping inside. It was only a split second that Bette caught a deeply concentrated expression on Tina’s austere face as the blonde stared at her computer. Once Tina turned her gaze to see who was at the door, her mouth widened into a beam and her eyes grew sparkly with joy, lighting up her whole face.
”Baby, what are you doing here?” she asked with excitement, rising to her feet.
Bette answered Tina’s happy smile with a brilliance of her own as she stepped into the office and closed the door. ”I thought I could visit you at work, you know, see Miss Serious Business Lady in action and all that.”
Tina chuckled, draping her arms around Bette’s neck and giving her a long, thorough kiss. ”Mmm…” a moan of longing escaped her lips before she inched back from the kiss. ”Gosh, I’ve missed you today.”
”Do you have a lot of work left?”
”No, I just need to sign a few papers.”
”Then you should hurry,” Bette smiled in that impishly seductive way.
Tina narrowed her eyes playfully. ”What do you have planned?”
”We’re cooking dinner tonight.”
Tina pouted, feigning disappointment. ”I hoped we’d cook something else…”
”Maybe we would,” Bette said, a naughty twinkle in her eye. ”If you behave.”
The door opened suddenly without knocking and Sam walked in backwards. ”Heya, cupcake. I’ve got coffee and your fav–” her voice trailed off once she turned around. Stopping in her tracks, she gawked at the couple. ”Oh! I’m so sorry to–”
”Come on in, Sam. I’ve got it almost signed,” Tina said, dropping back into her chair. ”Just give me a minute.”
Shoving her hands into her jeans pockets, Bette observed with a fixed, emotionless look as the woman meekly placed a coffee cup and a plate with a muffin on Tina’s table.
”Sam, this is Bette, my girlfriend. Bette, it’s our location manager, Sam,” Tina made the introductions distractedly.
Sam smiled briefly and Bette nodded at her. An uncomfortable silence was hanging in the air and Bette could sense that this woman was nervous. She then looked at the coffee cup and a plate with a muffin that stood on Tina’s table and reached for it. ”Thank you for this. Much needed.”
