“I did not “Emma began but Tina was on a roll
“Mom – I have got used to you having a low opinion of me – God I have had to get used to it because it’s been happening since I was 4. But that is a low blow even from you “
“Tina – do not create a scene “Emma said crisply
“I am not creating a scene – I am going back to work “
She marched off
“Tina! Come back!! “
Tina headed towards the exit and looked across – she could see that Helena had come back to the café via a very circular route. Tina gestured with her thumb up in the direction of Bette’s friend before she stepped on the escalator. Tina chuckled – that had been hair-raising as well as fun. She was looking forward to seeing Bette as soon as possible to dissect that incident.
Emma Kennard looked at her daughter as she disappeared out of sight – really that girl had to learn to control her emotions -that had been Kate. As much as she loved her wife, she had feared that indulging and spoiling Tina was a mistake – well that had been obvious by the way Tina was prone to over-reacting. Emma shook her head and headed towards the café. She would treat herself to coffee and a nice big piece of coffee cake and let Tina stew in her own anger.
She stepped beyond the glass panels that divided the from the rest of the store.
“Hello Emma – fancy seeing you here – how are you?”
Emma looked at Bette Porter who was standing putting her jacket on
“Bette – hello “
Emma cursed – that damn hot-headed daughter had screwed up another heaven-sent opportunity to meet Bette Porter.
“I have to go – nice to see you “Bette smiled and disappeared off further into the store. Helena was standing looking at the shoes
“That was some performance whatever you did “Bette said grabbing her friend
“You owe me and you owe me big time “
“Anything “Bette said
Helena weighed up what she wanted from Bette – there was only one price worth extracting from Bette
“I want dinner at your place and I want Tina there “
“it’s the least I can do “Bette said

That was close! I love Helena’s distraction. Bette should talk to Tina about at least coming out to the Porters. Or maybe both have to face their feelings first and finally admit that they love each other.
As for Emma, with every chapter I like her a little less. Awful how condescending and deprecative she talks to her own daughter.
Thanks for posting another chapter of this wonderful story. Can’t wait for dinner with Helena at Bette’s.

I hope to read a chapter after the what i think horrible last episode?! Marja did say in a interview she that if people were mad at her now, they would be even more mad after the last episode.????????????

I do see Tina’s point on not tell mommy dearest yet she’s still worried Bette may not have the deep feelings shes having and end up being yet another means to Emma’s abusive tongue.. but also likes knowing she has Bette all to herself right now. But Bette is having those feeling so much so she wants to tell the world and her parent’s.. this chapter was fun from the sexy bar to home scene to Helena spasming out over her feet trouble. Then the quick play with Emma. Very funny thank you.
That was hilarious….I love that Helena and Tina distracted her mom like they did. Then when Bette pops up in Emma presence, wow…. I just howled. Great impromptu acting for all of them. Great writing. Unlike others, I like Emma – a true alpha lesbian who is use to getting her own way. But I do believe she will let Tina off the hook a bit when she and Bette are finally out to their parents. Tina knows her mother pretty well and knows what presses her buttons. Tina pushes them when she gets a chance and knows the response she is going to get. If Tina is truly disturbed by her mother’s behavior, she would have a meeting with her and tell her to back off. I think Emma would…I think Emma is not aware how degrading she has been. Emma means well, she is just ignorant of what she’s doing.
Tina really needs to take a few hours and do some soul searching. How does she really feel about Bette? Then she needs to tell Bette how she feels. I believe Bette is ready for that conversation. It’s been three weeks – they need to at least agree they are girlfriends and want exclusivity with each other. Of course they haven’t had time to think about someone other than each other.
