“Really – hello – its delightful to meet you – I am Helena Peabody “
Emma looked at the tall, attractive woman as she took the outstretched hand
“As in THE Peabody’s?”
“Yes – hello Mrs Kennard “
“Call me Emma “
“Thank you, Emma, “
Tina looked across – she could just about see a dark head hiding behind a menu at a table at the edge of the café. It was just as well that Helena had warned her because they were heading for the café and they
would have walked straight into Tina’s lover.
“So how are you Tina?” Helena looked at the blonde – she was assessing the woman who was obviously keeping Bette very happy in every way
“I am fine – you?” Tina replied wondering how this was going to pan out
Helena looked at Emma – she could see that the older woman was watching them with suspicion.
“Tina is working on a proposal for funding from the Peabody Foundation for her community centre aren’t
you?” Helena said wondering how well Tina would react to what had obviously been a tentative
suggestion from Bette. Tina paused for a couple of seconds – community centre? Right. Peabody
Foundation? Yeah
“Yes – I met Helena last week and we had lunch “Tina embellished “She was most encouraging about the possibility of my proposal “
“This is the first I have heard of this “Emma said looking at Tina and back at Helena
“I didn’t want to get my hopes up “
“Well it’s good to see you Tina – we must get together and chat. I will see you soon “
“Of course, “Tina said. Emma looked at Helena who strolled away – she didn’t go back to the café – she
walked off further into the store. Emma watched her go for several minutes before turning her attention back to her daughter
“You know Helena Peabody?” she said in some disbelief
“We have had a couple of meetings “Tina said
“She greeted you like you were her best friend- and she is supposed to be very reserved”
“Really mom – just because she is British it doesn’t mean she is stuffy. I like her “
Tina was keeping her eye on the café – she needed to get her mother away from that café. There was no
way she was ready to admit her feelings about Bette to herself or to her lover – let alone their parents. She knew that it would only be a few more days or weeks until she was hopelessly head over the heels in love with Bette Porter. That was something that she needed to deal with before she faced what Bette’s feelings were. She was fairly sure that the brunette was feeling that same things. But that was for some time in the future – right now all that mattered was that their paths did not cross.
“She seemed to be very keen to hug you “Emma commented “Is she gay?”
“Sorry mom?”
“Are you having an affair with Helena Peabody ?”

That was close! I love Helena’s distraction. Bette should talk to Tina about at least coming out to the Porters. Or maybe both have to face their feelings first and finally admit that they love each other.
As for Emma, with every chapter I like her a little less. Awful how condescending and deprecative she talks to her own daughter.
Thanks for posting another chapter of this wonderful story. Can’t wait for dinner with Helena at Bette’s.

Jeez Emma, she is a terrible woman and mother, how can you treat your daughter like that! Why does she have to put Tina down at every opportunity?!
Loved how Helena came to rescue Bette and Tina!
I hope to read a chapter after the what i think horrible last episode?! Marja did say in a interview she that if people were mad at her now, they would be even more mad after the last episode.????????????

I do see Tina’s point on not tell mommy dearest yet she’s still worried Bette may not have the deep feelings shes having and end up being yet another means to Emma’s abusive tongue.. but also likes knowing she has Bette all to herself right now. But Bette is having those feeling so much so she wants to tell the world and her parent’s.. this chapter was fun from the sexy bar to home scene to Helena spasming out over her feet trouble. Then the quick play with Emma. Very funny thank you.
That was hilarious….I love that Helena and Tina distracted her mom like they did. Then when Bette pops up in Emma presence, wow…. I just howled. Great impromptu acting for all of them. Great writing. Unlike others, I like Emma – a true alpha lesbian who is use to getting her own way. But I do believe she will let Tina off the hook a bit when she and Bette are finally out to their parents. Tina knows her mother pretty well and knows what presses her buttons. Tina pushes them when she gets a chance and knows the response she is going to get. If Tina is truly disturbed by her mother’s behavior, she would have a meeting with her and tell her to back off. I think Emma would…I think Emma is not aware how degrading she has been. Emma means well, she is just ignorant of what she’s doing.
Tina really needs to take a few hours and do some soul searching. How does she really feel about Bette? Then she needs to tell Bette how she feels. I believe Bette is ready for that conversation. It’s been three weeks – they need to at least agree they are girlfriends and want exclusivity with each other. Of course they haven’t had time to think about someone other than each other.
