Just The Girl 2.0 – Chapter Seven (based loosely on HYD: Returns)

Arriving in front of an old, run-down building a few minutes later, she took a deep breath and glanced over her shoulder before taking out her cellphone from within her pocket. The number of people had thinned out over at these parts – a thing that lessened her anxiety to a small degree. Opening a one-hour old message in her inbox, she read the address on it and discretely checked if she was in the right place. Thankfully, she was. The name and description of the restaurant before her matched the one sent to her this morning. With a last look at the street, she went down a small flight of stairs, ducked past a low beam and entered the creaky doors of the diner. She flinched when a small bell announced her entry – but sighed in relief when only the old waitress behind the counter looked her way. Sweeping the place with her brown orbs, she smiled gratefully at the near absence of people inside. Save for a touchy-feely couple flirting at a table by the window, the place was almost devoid of customers. Almost. Bette took in a deep breath when she noticed a familiar head sticking out of a booth at a secluded part of the diner. The woman had her back turned on her, but she recognized her all the same. Three years had passed, still her appearance remained unchanged – well, at least the back of her head still looked identical. Bette licked her lips, bit the lower part, and was about to move to the lady when her own feet impeded her progress.

With her boots rooted in place – attached to the floor like she was super-glued at the spot, she found herself suddenly gripped by indecision and fear. It was something that always happened when she was on the brink of a major event or breakthrough. Like in every other aspect in life, she knew she had a choice. She could either step forward and get on with it, or step back, chicken out and run away. Deep inside, she knew what she had to do – but still, uncertainty had a way of creeping up and making her second-guess her actions. With clenched fists, she debated her next move and weighed things inside her mind. One path lead to recovery and maybe even enlightenment, the other to continued anguish and self-doubt. The waitress had stopped cleaning the counter with a rag as she stared and studied her – perplexed by the sight of her right foot as it made its ascent and danced with air – moving back and forth, torn between stepping forward or backward – mirroring her inner battle. Her father did say that most life-altering decisions are those made by spur of the moment choices. And so with a deep cleansing breath, she unclenched her fists and made up her mind. She unwrapped the restricting scarf around her neck, unbuttoned her coat, removed her sunglasses and took a big step forward.

    1. stay away from the candles, ha – love it!! it will be interesting to see how bette reacts to kate cos even though she knows tina would never go for anyone else our bette is always impulsive, potentially jealous and definately capable of violence…bring.the.meeting.on!!! ooh and i agree with carolyn1m the “…” – always make me smirk!! pps alch!

    2. Awesome …gla dthat U are back. I am gla dthat bette went to a therapy session…but she needs to open up to Tina. I also agree w/ Alice Kate is trouble. I love the teasing flirting goin on between Tina & Bette. So cute. Love it…

    3. Genius, making Candy the shrink. Way to use the characters. I’m also glad that she is married, not that it has stopped anyone before. Hopefully she is happily married. Thanks for the post, I know finals are coming up, and you made time for this. Are you taking any summer classes?

    4. Second post, I know, I’m working on getting a life. I was reading JTG I and came across the incest part, and then thought about IC insulting our intelligence with TK’s interrogation scene. Just wanted to mention that, tah for now. LOL

    5. all caught up again… what a story… love this… so glad candice is not into bette… but this kate… she better watch her ass… can’t wait for the next chapter… PPS

    6. That was great and glad cadace is therapy and nothing more, and glad she help Bette with the problem. And about kate, she better run before Bette see her or Bette gonna kick her ass. Please post more, thanks!

    7. Actually, this was an awesome chapter. I was able to see a young, bright, beautiful woman come to terms with her former behavior. Bette is growing up and becoming a better person. I am with Alice, I am not too found of Kate and you are making me nervous. Who is this new person that Bette is going to meet?

    8. I was runnin’ way behind on this story and now I’m all caught up. I love this story but I see the drama on the horizon! Be careful…I have a fragile Tibette heart. LOL

    9. I miss NYC, with the people pushing and shoving. NOT!!!!!! I’m happy that Bette had a good therapy session. But, I am trying to accept Candace as a GOOD person. Still trying to picture it. Still trying…… Kate is going to cause trouble for Tina. I hope Alice keeps a close eye on Kate, just in case Tina gets into trouble. Great post. PPS

    10. Okay..I know it sounds crazy but your ‘…’ really make me LOL and smile for the rest of the day..so BIG special thanks friend! Good chapter..it explained some things, and I have to agree with Alice re: Kate! Oh Bette is sooo gonna hate her!! Can not wait!!I love the drama you put tin cause unlike someone with the intials IC tthe drama doesn’t last a life time:)so many many thanks! you are awesome and… I LOVE this story!

    11. Why do I have a bad feeling that Tina is going to catch Bette with Candace in the future. As for Kate, sure Bette will hate her… but she might play with her too. Kate could be a fun pet….That sounded better in my head.

    12. Ok I am taking back what I said about Candace, she is good here so that is fine lol. but this kate??? she does not want to live for long. Alch agin great chapter can’t stop laughing about what happened after ette “meeting”. Love the love these two are sharing. I ope Bett will hare her problem with Tina soon becuse I sure her upport will be great and help to Bette cure. PPVS

    13. I’m glad Bette’s getting therapy, and I hope she sticks with it, it’s clearly helping some. Kate = big trouble. I wonder if Bette will see right through the girl straight away, or will she be as oblivious as Tina is? …Nah. If her bff Sam has to maintain distance from Tina at all times outside of Bette’s supervision, I think Bette will hire a squadron of ninjas to keep Kate at bay. Great chapter, Alchemy, thanks!
