Tina felt a punch in the stomach. Unable to say anything other than ”I’m sorry,” she turned and ran down the hall.

She didn’t take the elevator but the stairs, how could she have been so blind? How could she have even thought she could be friends with Bette or that Bette felt the kinship between them as much as Tina did.

”You’re so silly” Tina said to herself.

Chasing those thoughts away, even though it was difficult she began her round of guard duty.

Tina was in the little room examining some skull CT scans from a motorcycle accident, a 46 year old man who had swerved and crashed into the wall of a building, next to her was Williams, an assistant also of Sheaperd, so intuitive, she had been working with Tina for a week already.

Helena entered followed by her assistant Parker ”hey bad day.”

”don’t say it” Tina replied

”I’ve had 2 accidents already… and this is the third… what’s happening on the streets of NY?” Helena sighed examining the images ”is it the man with the pneumothorax?”

”yes” Tina replied ”concussion, blood coming out of the ears and nose, but I need to see the full picture” Tina couldn’t resist ”have you seen Bette today?”

Helena looked at Tina, then focused her gaze forward ”yes unfortunately…” Tina understood.

Helena looked at her again ”not here” she looked around ”let’s go to my office while we wait for the answers”.

”Did she say anything to you?” Helena asked Tina once inside her office.

”other than the insults?”

”you know she doesn’t think so”

”we haven’t met in less than a month Hel…” Tina sat down ”maybe I invaded her space, I just felt like I was doing nice things for her.”

”things that she appreciates, you can be sure of that” Helena also sat down in front of Tina ”you’re not the problem Tina…Callie is pregnant, by Mark Sloan”

”How…how do you know?” Tina asked shocked.

”Bette told me, Callie went to her last night…this morning when I arrived Camilla who worked the night shift in the ward told me she had heard Callie and Bette arguing…so I asked Bette for confirmation…and that’s how it is, Callie confessed to her that she was pregnant”.

Tina ran her hands through her hair ”damn it was not needed, even though Bette is done with her, this causes nervous Hel, agitation, night disturbances and whatnot.”

”I know I know…” Helena huffed massaging her temples ”I’m so worried … but I just think she needs time, and the closeness of good people Tina, including you, the one you want to give her … without impositions. She may want space sometimes, but she screams inside that she wants closeness”.

Tina bit her lip ”ok … I just want to take things slowly, she doesn’t trust me like she does you, Shane and Alice … I don’t want to be a burden”.

”if you are she will let you know..”.

Helena rolled her eyes looking at the pager ”today it’s not Bette. Someone has taken over her body. Emergency at the ER, see you tonight.”
