Let It Happen – Chapter XIV
They alighted at the penthouse, and spotted George and Claudia right away. The latter couple made their way to Bette and Tina. George greeted them warmly, while Claudia kissed each on the cheeks, “I don’t know what I was thinking Bette. You and Tina are, hands down, the sexiest couple here, and I am the luckiest man in the room, clearly,” as he drew Claudia into a hug.
Bette and Tina were shaking their heads as a tall blondish man in a fashion-forward blue-black tux walked over.
“Good evening, welcome to my house,” the man said. The group turned to look at him, and George cried out, “Logan!” extending his hand in order to shake the other man’s hand.
He began introducing the women, “Logan Polson, this is Claudia, Bette Porter, and…”
“Tina, Tina Kennard,” Logan interrupted him, smiling, as he drew Tina closer for a hug.
Bette, Claudia, and George were thunderstruck. But Tina was smiling stiffly, and held back slightly from the hug being offered.
She swallowed, “Logan, how’ve you been?”
“Tina… is that any way to treat a brother?”
Bette dropped her mouth. “Your brother?”
Tina turned to her, shaking her head. “Step-brother… long story.”
George, for once, was at a loss for words.
Logan dropped his hand from Tina’s shoulder to her waist, intending to pull her slightly away. But, upon seeing Bette’s and Tina’s hands entwined with each other’s, he stopped and asked, “Bette, mind if I take her away for a minute? I haven’t seen or heard from Tina in over 20 years.”
Bette didn’t let go, nor did she respond to Logan, and instead turned to Tina, “Baby, do you want to?”
Tina nodded her head, gave Bette a quick kiss, and whispered in her ear, “I’ll be okay. I’ll look for you later, ok?”
Logan pulled her across the room, with all the other guests watching and observing the group now. A tall, elegant woman cut across to intercept Logan, who appeared to then introduce Tina to the woman. The woman smiled, gave Tina a quick peck on her cheek, and then turned back to the rest of the guests.
Logan and Tina sat in a table on the corner, set apart from the rest of the party, but had a good vantage point of everything going on. Tina was thinking the table was probably always set up like that whenever a party was going on in Logan’s place.
