Love in Control – Chapter II – Savannah (Part 2)

“By the way they were considered, or are considered great, at least some of them – and they had as much bloodlust running in their veins as their political masters. The only difference between them and the dictators they served was they wielded more potent and beautiful weapons.”

She paused. The audience, which had been restless at the start, had stilled and many in the audience now sat erect or at the edge of their seats.

    “Paint, paintbrush, and canvass.”

She pointed the rolled up papers at the students, section by section, slowly. “Just like yours. Metaphorically speaking.”

“More powerful than bullets, knives, gunpowder or other things that explode or kill.”

She turned slightly to her right to look in the direction of the seats where the question about the relevance of her topic to their careers, came from.

“At the other end of your art is a viewer who you can seduce to believing anything you want.   Remember that always.”

After a pause, she continued, turning to look at the middle of the student section. “The thing that I’ve found the most disturbing is that there is a shockingly large amount of art to sift through that one could consider propaganda, and I’m speaking here of propaganda whose message is, quite simply, killing. Killing people. Wrapped in some manifesto or belief structure, maybe. But the message is killing, all the same. So this has been a really taxing, excruciating, but very interesting project.”

She turned her back briefly to the audience, and let that message sink in. She pulled the stool hidden behind the podium to the center of the stage, lifting it slightly. A spotlight followed her every move. One could hear a pin drop in the stillness and quiet of the cavernous auditorium that was now filled to capacity, and the only sounds that could be heard were those Rian was making.

She half-sat on the stool. “I think it’s my turn to ask a question. What period of time when art was flourishing would you say was the most “propaganda-free” time in history? Perhaps nothing going on for art to expound on but beauty, love, and all of that good stuff?”

The students looked uneasily at each other; what a strange question! Where could it lead?

    1. So pleased to read your story!

I don’t care that it isn’t a traditional Bette and Tina story line, but i wouldn’t mind if you give them more time in it ;-)

That was such a heart warming talk between Jade and Rian’s mom.

      Thanks for the update!

    2. It was a little early for my Pinot Noir, but well worth it, as it perfectly paired with your story. In fact, all of your stories are a full-spectrum sensory experience for me. Like a good glass of wine, I get lost in the color, bathe in the aroma, and relish the taste and texture of your scenes. Your give your protagonist characters a rich personality that I can’t help but instantly root for. While Bette and Tina initially drew me this this site and your stories, I really enjoy your other characters just as much.

Aerin virtually stole the words out of my mouth. If I had a professor like Rian during my undergraduate years, perhaps I would have gotten better than a C+ in my Art History class. I may have even been persuaded to change majors with such impassioned lectures.

As I was reading the dialogue between Jade and Rian’s mom, I was thinking that’s the type of mom I wish we had and we all would become. Well done.

    3. I normally am only interested in Bette and Tina stories, but not with this one im loving all your characters , and story lines, i can”t wait to read more. Thank you

Please do continue to let me know your thoughts as this story progresses – based on actual places and people – as we explore what it means to love, and be stripped bare even if fully-clothed, before another.

    4. Genuine art has the power to strengthen the spirit of the people.
I loved Rian lecture, I applaud the end of the lecture.
And please do not let Tina looks at this Kaci, from what I read,
      I realized, it will happen.
      The complete constellation.
