Love in Control – Chapter II – Savannah (Part 2)

“Oh, no one’s disappointed, Miss. Apologies are totally unnecessary!” a boy hollered from the audience. As the rest of the audience chuckled, a few of the faculty in the audience shushed him and the others who sounded like they were about to say something also.

Rian laughed lightly, took a few steps forward, peering at the papers she clutched, and then paused, cocking a hip. She looked up, scanned the curious, eager faces of the student section, biting on her lip, frowning slightly as if thinking about what to say next. Everyone was poised for the start.

“I’ll tell you what. Why don’t I take a few questions from you first, to see what part of the material may interest you more, and then we can start?”

Another murmur spread through the student section, as students began to look at each other with some uncertainty. Now this was different!

Someone from the audience called out, “So what’s the most interesting exhibit your firm is working on at the moment?”

Rian nodded as she looked at the general direction of where the question came from. She turned to the other side of the auditorium. “Any other questions? Why don’t we take a few and then I can start answering?”

“Why would a lecture on museum trends be relevant for students who are working towards careers in cartoons, comics, or things like that?” someone asked boldly. Some in the faculty section in the audience stood to look at the area of the student section where the question came from. There was an uneasy stir amongst the students.

Rian nodded and smiled supportively towards the seats where the question came from. “No, that’s alright. It’s a good question … and I have a good answer.”

    “Anyone else?”

“Yeah. Your phone number?” That came from Cade. Rian turned slowly to look at him with an eyebrow arched. She saw that the impertinent question came from a guy next to Bette, seated in the middle section of the auditorium, reserved for VIPs, where the Board and other donors were. Bette and the guy were in the front row of that section, and Rian saw her friend was digging her elbows on the guy’s side and glaring at him. He was looking back at her with raised eyebrows also. “Wha-a-a-tt? She asked for questions…” he mouthed back at her.

    1. So pleased to read your story!

I don’t care that it isn’t a traditional Bette and Tina story line, but i wouldn’t mind if you give them more time in it ;-)

That was such a heart warming talk between Jade and Rian’s mom.

      Thanks for the update!

    2. It was a little early for my Pinot Noir, but well worth it, as it perfectly paired with your story. In fact, all of your stories are a full-spectrum sensory experience for me. Like a good glass of wine, I get lost in the color, bathe in the aroma, and relish the taste and texture of your scenes. Your give your protagonist characters a rich personality that I can’t help but instantly root for. While Bette and Tina initially drew me this this site and your stories, I really enjoy your other characters just as much.

Aerin virtually stole the words out of my mouth. If I had a professor like Rian during my undergraduate years, perhaps I would have gotten better than a C+ in my Art History class. I may have even been persuaded to change majors with such impassioned lectures.

As I was reading the dialogue between Jade and Rian’s mom, I was thinking that’s the type of mom I wish we had and we all would become. Well done.

    3. I normally am only interested in Bette and Tina stories, but not with this one im loving all your characters , and story lines, i can”t wait to read more. Thank you

    4. Genuine art has the power to strengthen the spirit of the people.
I loved Rian lecture, I applaud the end of the lecture.
And please do not let Tina looks at this Kaci, from what I read,
      I realized, it will happen.
      The complete constellation.
