Love in Control – Chapter II – Savannah (Part 2)

Jade blushed deeply at that. Rian’s mom continued, “Then I got to know you more, and saw why, beyond the obvious physical attraction between you two, my daughter fell so deeply in love with you. I’ve never told you about how proud I am of you, and all your accomplishments, and how grateful I am that you chose my daughter to love. I wish I’d said so before, and I hope I’ll do so more often in the future … I really hope that you and Rian will continue to be together, Jade, because she will never find anyone else like you.”

Jade clasped the hands that held her face, tearing up as well. “I’m the one who should be grateful that Rian let me into her life, mom. You’ve taught me a lot, as well, about what it means to love someone. I’ve realized you are an integral part of the reason why Rian is the remarkable woman that she is — because she had you as a mother. This all has not been easy on you, either, mom, and I know that your cousins and family in Philadelphia have not been understanding about why Rian got into a relationship, and is living with, a woman. I’ve overheard a few heated arguments over the phone between you and them, and I know you’ve been standing up for us. I’m sorry that we’ve never made it up there to visit with you when you’ve gone up to see them, the way, I’m sure, you would’ve wanted. And that it must tear you up inside, knowing how important family is to you, that they’ve frozen Rian out, basically, because she and I are together.”

Hyacinthe gave her a small smile. “Now, Jade, don’t pay attention to all of that nonsense …”

Jade shook her head. “No, mom. This is important. I know that Jade comes from a family with long-lived lines, and that your family culture is an important part of you and her.   So I think that somewhere inside of you, somehow, you’re hoping that Rian will be welcomed into the fold again. That would be natural …”

    “Jade, my dear, please …”

“Mom, I’d feel the same way, too, if I’d been part of a family legacy like that. Even if I’m not, if my daughter had been frozen out by my brother and his family, it would tear me up inside, knowing my daughter wasn’t welcomed just because she was living a lifestyle that they were uncomfortable with. If that were the case …”

    1. So pleased to read your story!

I don’t care that it isn’t a traditional Bette and Tina story line, but i wouldn’t mind if you give them more time in it ;-)

That was such a heart warming talk between Jade and Rian’s mom.

      Thanks for the update!

    2. It was a little early for my Pinot Noir, but well worth it, as it perfectly paired with your story. In fact, all of your stories are a full-spectrum sensory experience for me. Like a good glass of wine, I get lost in the color, bathe in the aroma, and relish the taste and texture of your scenes. Your give your protagonist characters a rich personality that I can’t help but instantly root for. While Bette and Tina initially drew me this this site and your stories, I really enjoy your other characters just as much.

Aerin virtually stole the words out of my mouth. If I had a professor like Rian during my undergraduate years, perhaps I would have gotten better than a C+ in my Art History class. I may have even been persuaded to change majors with such impassioned lectures.

As I was reading the dialogue between Jade and Rian’s mom, I was thinking that’s the type of mom I wish we had and we all would become. Well done.

    3. I normally am only interested in Bette and Tina stories, but not with this one im loving all your characters , and story lines, i can”t wait to read more. Thank you

      • Thanks for all your comments don70! Am glad you and others enjoy reading about these characters and am happy you find the different storylines they inhabit interesting. Please do continue to let me know your thoughts as this story progresses – based on actual places and people – as we explore what it means to love, and be stripped bare even if fully-clothed, before another.

    4. Genuine art has the power to strengthen the spirit of the people.
I loved Rian lecture, I applaud the end of the lecture.
And please do not let Tina looks at this Kaci, from what I read,
      I realized, it will happen.
      The complete constellation.
