Love in Control – Chapter VIII – Will You Marry Me?

Callan grimaced slightly at another obvious rebuff, but shrugged his shoulders and smirked at her. A challenge, huh? I can dig that.  She is definitely a prize worth playing this game for.  He poured her another glass, sat back and took in their surroundings.  “So, how ever did you discover this place?  Pat and I would have happily stayed down at the main level, none the wiser about this terrace.”

“Just one of the secret places in this city that a girl’s gotta know about,” Rian answered as she took another sip of the rose, and winked at both of them slowly. The men grew slack-jawed.

Over in the far corner, sitting by the fireplace, Brom and Morgan watched Rian at play.

“She’s crushin’ it tonight,” Brom observed. “Who would have thought?”

“I would’ve. Once I put that blonde wig on her when we were playing around with her look earlier in my hotel room — after the spa — all the pieces of that persona she was reaching for fell into place.  The walk, the toss of hair, the flirty eyes – everything!”

Morgan tilted her glass at him with a small smile. “You realize she’s barely needed any last-minute coaching tonight, right?”

Brom chuckled and nodded his head. “Her make-up’s not the same as the one the spa did on her – the one I saw when I came by to settle things at the spa.  But better for her look tonight, I think.  You did that, right?”

Morgan beamed at him, pleased he’d noticed the changes to Rian’s look that she’d done.

She drained her glass. “I’m ready for another one, I think.”  She shook the empty glass and looked at him meaningfully.

When they’d settled into this spot on the couch, in front of the fireplace, they’d elected to forego the Dom Perignon Rose’ the waiter had suggested and instead had each ordered a cocktail, omikase style.

Brom shook his head with a rueful smile. “How are you keeping it together despite all these drinks you’re finishing off like water?”

An hour and a half earlier, while they’d hung out in an isolated, intimate corner table of the main level of the bar, within Rian’s line of sight, but hidden away, he’d hesitated to order her another drink when a waiter had dropped by to ask whether they’d wanted another round. Brom had been nursing his drink, and hadn’t even gotten half-way through it, while Morgan had been absent-mindedly rolling the ice of her drink around her mouth, having consumed her drink ten minutes earlier.

    1. Oh, that was absolute worth the long wait!

Fantastic and sexy chapter, wouldn’t mind if you write more B&T in your story.

But Rian and Jade captured my heart, they are a great couple.

      Thanks for the update!

    2. You can be sure that yes, it was worth the wait
      for another fantastic chapter!
My heart always Tibette, however Jade and Rian captivated me.
      The whole universe

    3. Hello everyone. Thanks for taking the time to comment. A few caveats: the story arc for “Love In Control” will not have much Bette/Tina romance, although there will be occasional scenes. Their story is evolving in this book — the evolution will see them in a family unit, rather than as a couple. This particular arc started with scenes in earlier chapters, and will be more central in the next chapters. I think I’ve gone over their romance (exhaustively) in the other books already, anyway, and I really don’t have much more to say about “Tibette” than what I’ve already written in the other books.

I sense that it’s time that they evolve and mature in my stories, as characters, otherwise, their story arc will not make much sense if they remain struck in TiBette-land (at least in my storyline). To be perfectly honest, an evolving, maturing Bette/Tina, in the way I’ve been writing about them, is infinitely more interesting for me to write. I can sense them growing, and it seems to be as part of a family unit: this evolution is more authentic and important in this book than “TiBette.” it’s the other couples, in the meantime, who will be developing their own romances.

In the end this book is about a few kinds of love, what they mean, etc., but make no mistake the evolving Bette/Tina take on love remains the central/anchoring one for this book, particularly as things take a turn in the next chapters.

i may disappoint many of the readers who take the time to click through the pages of this story … I hope they will understand that I really can’t write a story if it’s not something I believe in or can stand behind, or would even want to read myself. I have moved on, and have explored the limits of that particular time in their lives through several books already, and so have the Bette and Tina characters in my storylines. They are different now from who they were in the TiBette version of the earlier books from who they seem to be growing into —

maybe I should re-classify this book to another fandom, different from “L Word” even if Bette and Tina and their family are central characters?

I seem to be raising expectations by slotting this book under “L Word.” And that’s not fair to you, the readers.

    4. While Bette and Tina originally attracted me to your writing, your Jade/Rain and Aerin/Harley characters have captivated me. Their unexplored characters are ripe with endless plot lines. Don’t apologize for the lack of TiBette romance, as your other characters and your writing are rich enough to sustain my appetite for a romantic escape.
