Few days later

“How’s Shane?” Bette asked as she sat down at the table in The Planet noticing that Shane was at the counter.
“Okay, she’s a little quiet but other than that I think she is doing okay.”
Bette nodded her head “Do you think the BBQ was the right idea?”
Alice laughed “Yeah, Shane told me why you decided on having it in the first place. We had a nice talk that night and sorted a few issues out.”
Bette smiled “I’m glad, so you two back to the way you were?”
“I think we will never be like that anymore”
“But Al..”
“Too much has happened to both of us. We have grown apart and grown back together.”
“so?”
“Truthfully I think our friendship is going to be more solid”
“How solid can it get?!” Bette muttered to herself as Shane walked over with two cups of coffee.

“Hey Bette, I didn’t see you there or else I would have got you one also.”
Bette waved her hand telling her it was okay. “Here you go Alice. So what were you two talking about?” Shane asked sitting down, but sighed seeing the girls look at each other. “I’m fine guys, yeah I’m upset but I knew it would happen one day and I can’t really blame her. I’m the one who left.”
“But Shane?”
“Bette, look as long as she is happy then I am too. And who knows maybe one day I’ll meet someone as good as her”
Alice sighed “One day huh?”
“Yes Alice, one day. Maybe not tomorrow or next month. Maybe not in a year but one day I will. We’ve already talked about this”
“I know I was just wondering if you might have changed your mind”
“Who knows who I am going to meet, the girl of my dreams could walk in through that door right this second”
All three ladies eyes turned towards the door and laughed as they saw a woman walk in who was not even Shane’s type; “Yeah right Shane!”

Shane smiled a huge mega watt one, but behind that smile was pain. Pain so deep it was threatening to over run. But she couldn’t let her friends see, she needed to put on a front for them so they would stop asking questions. So far it was working, but she knew the longer the pretense the harder it would be in the long run.
