Love’s Recovery
“That’s not how our relationship works these days, Alice.”
“But it could,” Alice reasoned. “If you thought that it was best for Bette and Angie you could talk some sense into your wife.”
“Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that,” Tina said, pondering the notion.

Bette could hear the classical music playing as she exited the car. The ride to Maxine’s was made in relative silence with Kit. She had picked Kit up at The Planet and, aside from exchanging some minimal small talk forced by Kit, she had focused on mentally preparing herself for an evening with her mother.
“I recognize this music from when we were growing up,” Kit said as she exited the car.
“Must she play it so loudly? When I came here to confront her it was blaring then too.”
“She has no neighbors for a mile.” Kit reached for Bette’s hand as they went to the front door. “I just wish her taste in music would improve after all these years.”
“It isn’t that bad,” Bette countered. “I thought as a musician you were supposed to love all kinds of music.”
“You’re confusing music with your beloved art,” Kit laughed. “I’m an R&B girl from birth til death do us part!”
Kit knocked on the door standing in front of Bette. Both sisters smiled as they noticed the music decreasing and heard Maxine rushing to the door.
“I’m so glad you both are here,” Maxine gushed as the door swung wide. She stepped back allowing both Bette and Kit to pass, not daring to ask for a hug from either of her daughters. “I hope you are hungry, I made about four different meals before I realized that you both eat so healthy in LA. The odds of you still loving a gooey Philly cheesesteak was likely slim to none.”
“I really hope you didn’t go through too much trouble,” Bette said in a monotoned voice. “We could have simply met at The Planet for dinner.”
“I told you, I wanted to show you some of my pieces I’ve been working on. I never thought I would get inspiration from Szabo but a friend of mine recommended one of his workshops and I was so lucky to get a spot to hone my skills. It’s been about a year since I attended it and it’s still so fresh in my mind.”

Bette and Maxine have to discuss what happened to cause Maxine to make the choices she made. They can either discuss their history or their current status. Bette is making any communication impossible. Bette needs to shelve her anger and allow Maxine to tell her story. Then she can make a judgement as to if she wants a relationship or not. It is understandable that she is angry based upon what she knows. But she has agreed to give Maxine a chance. Now just do what you agreed to do, Bette!
Good story…keep them coming.
I agree with Martha Bette has to give Maxine a chance to tell her story.
Great to have you, and this Story, back
Looking forward to more

I am sorry ladies but i don’t agree with you.
I fully understand that Bette is angry with Maxine. She comes home from a work trip and suddenly there is Maxine, who has stubbornly squeezed herself into Bette’s family and friends, and Bette must suddenly give her a chance?
Bette should be given the opportunity to think carefully first, she is now more or less forced to talk to Maxine and give her a chance to tell her story.
Let Bette decide whether she wants to give Maxine a chance and not feel compelled by her friends, Tina, Kit and Maxine just because they think Bette should give Maxine that chance.
Great story Gumby and don’t you dare to wait another ten years to update ????????
Thank you for the story!
Ok, so i think this Bette is still self-absorbed Bette who think first only about herself. If she don’t want to have any deal with her mother – it’s her choice, but i think she don’t have a right demanding that Tina and Angie don’t have a deal with Maxine too.
Okay, I’m all caught up again and ready for the drama. Thanks, Gumby for reviving this fic! Can’t wait to see where you take us.
