Love’s Recovery
“As Whitney was to Cox….” Bette let her statement trail off as her eyes took in Maxine’s latest creation.
“I don’t know if just one technique influenced me like Whitney’s wet in wet, but I tried a few different strokes.”
“It looks good, Maxine,” Kit encouraged her. “I don’t know about different techniques, but it has a lot of bright colors and I love that. Don’t you think so, Bette?”
“I think art is personal and becomes interesting when others see it differently than you.”
“Well I love it, Maxine,” Kit offered, hoping to ease the tension.
“Art is a little bit like the Bible, you don’t have to agree with it, but you have to know about it,” Bette countered as she turned back around ignoring the hurt look on Maxine’s face.
“Lots of colors….” Kit put her hand on Maxine’s shoulder as she turned toward the kitchen to change the subject.
Maxine handed both Bette and Kit a glass of iced tea and motioned for them to her comfortable living room.
“Dinner should be ready shortly, I thought we could take some time and get to know one another again. How about we start with you, Kit. Things at The Planet going ok?”
“They’re busy, that’s for sure.”
“I know, each time I go in there for coffee it’s crowded beyond belief. I don’t know how you keep up. Since it takes up so much of your time, do you ever miss singing and performing?”
“Life on the road is rough,” Kit said sadly. “I miss it, but The Planet gives me the stability I need. That one meeting where I talked about how hard it was to stay on the straight and narrow was the truth.”
“You went to a meeting together?” Bette said, arching her eyebrow.
“I was her sponsor…” Maxine let her voice trail off noticing that Bette wasn’t open to hearing about how far Kit had come. “Well tell me about you, Lizzie.”
“It’s Bette now, thank you. And it seems like I’m the one at a disadvantage. I noticed the scrapbook you’ve kept on me the last time I was here so you seem to know what you want to know about me. Shouldn’t you be telling us what you’ve been up to?”

Bette and Maxine have to discuss what happened to cause Maxine to make the choices she made. They can either discuss their history or their current status. Bette is making any communication impossible. Bette needs to shelve her anger and allow Maxine to tell her story. Then she can make a judgement as to if she wants a relationship or not. It is understandable that she is angry based upon what she knows. But she has agreed to give Maxine a chance. Now just do what you agreed to do, Bette!
Good story…keep them coming.
I agree with Martha Bette has to give Maxine a chance to tell her story.
Great to have you, and this Story, back
Looking forward to more
SG
I am sorry ladies but i don’t agree with you.
I fully understand that Bette is angry with Maxine. She comes home from a work trip and suddenly there is Maxine, who has stubbornly squeezed herself into Bette’s family and friends, and Bette must suddenly give her a chance?
Bette should be given the opportunity to think carefully first, she is now more or less forced to talk to Maxine and give her a chance to tell her story.
Let Bette decide whether she wants to give Maxine a chance and not feel compelled by her friends, Tina, Kit and Maxine just because they think Bette should give Maxine that chance.
Great story Gumby and don’t you dare to wait another ten years to update ????????
Thank you for the story!
Ok, so i think this Bette is still self-absorbed Bette who think first only about herself. If she don’t want to have any deal with her mother – it’s her choice, but i think she don’t have a right demanding that Tina and Angie don’t have a deal with Maxine too.
Okay, I’m all caught up again and ready for the drama. Thanks, Gumby for reviving this fic! Can’t wait to see where you take us.
