Real Tibette – Thanksgiving 2023
‘Okay,’ she said.
And Ben was off, on a mission. Sonny said they should get gloved up, so Bette got the thick work gloves she kept in the trunk of the car. Then the womenfolk all stood around while the guys went down and got the axe, some propane cylinders, a camping stove, a kettle, and a few more flashlights and lanterns.
Sonny found the main power switch and turned it off, to remove the risk of fire from exposed wires. They couldn’t see what had caused the outage. Ben asked if a couple of people could shine some light onto the logs while he chopped them. He’d been chopping wood at the cabin since Bette showed him how when he was about ten. So Tina and Sonny got their phones, and soon Kit and Sasha were setting kindling in the grate, and Bette was scrubbing the big old aluminium kettle, and everyone, in their own quiet way, was pleased to be part of a family that pulled together in a crisis.
***
Sunrise came with the funny slide-whistle call of the mourning doves. And a nine-year-old carrying a blue octopus plushy.
‘Happy Thanksgiving!’ Sasha said, climbing on her parents’ bed.
‘Happy Thanksgiving, sweetheart,’ said Tina.
‘Happy Thanksgiving, boo,’ said Bette.
They kissed their child. Tina asked if she’d slept okay.
‘Uh huh,’ said Sasha.
‘Were you warm enough?’ asked Bette.
‘Yep.’
‘Is Ben awake?’
‘He said he’s not getting up till the fire’s lit.’
Bette met Tina’s gaze. They’d agreed the night before that they would tell everyone about Angie and Nik before breakfast.
‘Well, that’s a shame,’ said Tina, tapping Sasha on the nose with one of Pat’s tentacles.
Bette got up, pulled a woollen hoodie over her green flannel turkey-print pyjamas and borrowed Tina’s Ugg slippers. Next door, the kids’ room was cold and bright, the windows streaked with condensation. Ben was cocooned in his bed clothes on the top bunk, only his thick black hair visible. Bette shivered. ’Unseasonably mild’ was still pretty nippy.
‘Hey,’ she said, shaking his shoulder gently.
‘Is the fire lit?’ came the muffled response.
‘Mhmm,’ Bette lied, without so much as a flicker of conscience.
Ben pulled down his quilt and stared at his mother with beautiful, but sceptical, sea-green eyes.

Totally AGREE w/these comments. NOT surprised that the REAL Tibette fam is adorably caotic as evah!!!
After u’ve calmed down from from the Holloman exhibit maybe there’s a chapter wth yall meeting up wth the Kennard-Porters . . .
Hi Dumplin!
Yes, I’m enjoying the family growing up – working out what the kids are into and how having Alice in NY affects things. There’s a lot of moving parts. Thanks for taking the time to read it and comment. Means a lot.
Take care
Largo
Largo,
I correct the previous comment . . . DISagree that U have been “arrogant” by calling this masterpiece as “REAL”. Pfff! It certainly I S that!!!
Authors on this site have enraptured us with exquisite insight in filling gaps that were not revealed in TLW nor GenQ.
BaddAss Writers U r!!!!
hahaha, you are the best, Dumplin :-)
The gaps…. the gaps, oh the gaps!
I’m so pleased you enjoy what i enjoy writing. It makes it all worthwhile.

This was so needed, missed & delicious to deavour.
Excellent writing as per your usual postings.
Tibette has so perfectly fit themselves into each other & draw such strength from one another.
And Angie, trying her hardest to find the right fit & balance in her life & love. Hopefully we’ll get to read in the not to distant future who she meets & really falls in love with.
Overall, a gem & this will join all your other endeavours as my all, time favorites.
Thanks for making our holidays a bit more grateful & joyful.
All my best.
Coll,
Aren’t we the blessed ones who get the healing nectar that comes from creative, humorous, nsightful literature??
Glad U spoke of he “joyfulness” that springs forth
Hey D,
Yes, we are very blessed. I deeply appreciate the efforts of all the writers on this site for giving of their time & creativity in imagining these wonderful stories.
We all need joy in our lives in any form.
Take care my friend.
Thank you for your lovely comments. It means so much to me that you enjoy this Tibette world. I like writing them as a solid team in, as you say, a big messy family, just filled with love and support. Everything we never, ever, saw on the show.
Thanks, friends
Largo
the Writers on this ABSOLUTELY prove that lesbian couples can have stable ‘ships and “double-you-over laughter in all the caotic happening that “framily members” bring
