    Real Tibette – Thanksgiving 2023

‘C’mon,’ she said, tapping his knee. ‘Put on something warm and come down.’

Downstairs, Sonny was raking through the ashes of the fire before resetting it. (Close enough, thought Bette, with relief.) Kit, who seemed to be wearing all her own clothes and half of Sonny’s too, plus a hat shaped like a turkey with its legs dangling beside her ears, had a notepad and was working out the food situation.

When everyone was there, Tina said they had news about Angie. And then she and Bette told them everything they knew. That Angie was coming down from Cambridge by herself. That she and Nikita were no longer dating.

    ‘What happened?’ Sasha asked immediately.

‘We’re not sure, honey,’ said Tina in a soothing, managing-a-trauma voice.

‘Did she break up with Nik or did Nik break up with her?’

    ‘We’re not sure.’

    ‘Did he cheat?’

‘Sasha!’ said Bette, Kit and Sonny together.

‘Why would he cheat?’ Ben asked. ‘Why would it be the guy’s fault?’

‘Maybe it isn’t anybody’s—’ Sonny began, but the kids were off.

‘Because boys are idiots?’ Sasha said. ‘And because—’

‘“Idiots”? Like someone who goes everywhere with a toy?’

    ‘He’s a cephelapod!’

    ‘It’s a toy!’

    ‘And you’re a dumbass!’

Ben gave his little sister a look like he had a lot of words he could say, but he wasn’t gonna, then got up and went back to his room.

Once she’d had coffee, Tina posted in the WhatsApp group, asking for numbers for pest control or electricians. She got those (and an apology from Karl and Nora), but also offers for her and her family to join other families for their Thanksgiving meals. But nobody felt like taking a begging bowl to a bunch of strangers who might be, and probably weren’t, and yet still might be, racist or homophobic, so they were unanimous in staying put and muddling through.

Sonny got a pest control guy and an electrician who would come out on Friday. They had enough food to get them through till then. They could fry on the skillet on the fire, and heat any amount of water or milk or soup, etc. Phones could be charged from the cars, although with no wifi they wouldn’t be much at risk of running out.

Yes, I’m enjoying the family growing up – working out what the kids are into and how having Alice in NY affects things. There’s a lot of moving parts. Thanks for taking the time to read it and comment. Means a lot.

    4. Largo,
I correct the previous comment . . . DISagree that U have been “arrogant” by calling this masterpiece as “REAL”. Pfff! It certainly I S that!!!

Authors on this site have enraptured us with exquisite insight in filling gaps that were not revealed in TLW nor GenQ.

      BaddAss Writers U r!!!!

    5. This was so needed, missed & delicious to deavour.

Excellent writing as per your usual postings.

Tibette has so perfectly fit themselves into each other & draw such strength from one another.

And Angie, trying her hardest to find the right fit & balance in her life & love. Hopefully we’ll get to read in the not to distant future who she meets & really falls in love with.

Overall, a gem & this will join all your other endeavours as my all, time favorites.
