Chapter 28
Bette stood in front of Tina to shelter her from her own reflection.
"It’s okay… don’t look at it!" she insisted gently trying to entice Tina away from the mirror, "Come on let’s get you in the shower.”
But Tina did not move right away. She was near struck rigid, eyes wide opened at the shock of her own appearance. The soreness, the stinging, the burning and the throbbing which she had felt so far should have prepared her, but the fact remained that the sight which had just confronted her, had made it all too real, all too abruptly.
Bette cupped her face delicately and repeated softly. “Don’t do that to yourself Tina… Please…. you are beautiful."
Despite the caring and gentle words that the brunette was dispensing, tears threatened one more time. Bette leaned in and kissed Tina’s eyelids lightly, wishing the sadness and the pain to leave her lover’s body. "You are beautiful," she repeated one more time.
Tina looked up and gave the vet a semblance of a smile. She was most definitely receptive to the kind words proffered but her distress was all too powerfully and uncontrollably taking over her at this moment.
“Come on,” Bette repeated and nodding towards the shower this time as she tried to playfully instruct. “Hop in!”
Half way through a sob, Tina let out a timid chuckle. She took the hand offered and gingerly raised one foot and then the other to step over the side of the bathtub. She was relieved when her body did not protest too much at the simple manoeuvre.
Once inside the small cubicle, she turned towards the shower head and shuffled slowly in the couple inches of water which had gathered at the base of the tub. The warm water felt instantly good against her skin. It was a small relief but she took it anticipating at this point the delight which the large shower head would provide.
Anchoring herself to the towel rail and the opposite wall as she progressed, she soon became aware of her momentary physical limitations and a slight panic overtook her.
She felt light headed and her legs started shaking. Her body was clearly reacting to the fact that she was now upright and mobile and still very much in shock. Her only able hand and sole lifeline felt totally inadequate, even in the small confined space.

So 27 was the antipenultimate, huh? Still, wish there were many more….
This chapter is really well written, could feel the intensity and nervousness of it all. Especially the interaction between those two, and the reliving of the nightmare. Only one more chapter…boo
As Jackiet said, “only 1 more chapter, BOO,” I agree totally. Felt the pain and anguish both of them were feeling during that shower. Really hate to see this story end, maybe you can give us more on their budding relationship and see if Bette goes to US with Tina if she decides to leave earlier than she had planned or even if she decides to live in Africa with Bette. Give us more about their relationship and budding love. Just reaching because I hate to see it end. Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful story.

Thanks for the chapter. Glad that Tina is really going to recover and Bette is making sure that she knows that even with the bruises and scars-that she is still beautiful, sexy and wanted.
I’m so glad Tina has Bette there so support her through her healing process. It isn’t easy for either of them. I could feel the anguish Bette was feeling as she explained to Tina what happened to her. Even though she hasn’t used the word yet I think it’s apparent that she feels a deep love for Tina.
I’m so going to be sad when this ends but so wonderful writing. Thank you for this story.

Kins!… you just made me do some happy dance … :D LOL… somehow knowing that this is NOT the last chapter is so exciting, THOUGH after that when realized that means only one more chapter to go makes me kinda in blue :-( Anyway… this chapter is so beautifully painful … or painfully beautiful eh?? .. :-p the way you play with words always amazed me! even simple scene as showering (pure showering! ;-p) also become some great scene in your hand. Amazing! … ^_^ I do hope the next chapter will be covering the future for them too.. if not, well.. maybe you can do that in the prologue?! :-p LOL.. with all due respect Kins, it’s your call as it’s your privilege as the writer! ;-) I’ll stick around for any update for you for sure. BTW one year older not always wiser as wise person with young heart is not an easy one to find! ;-)

Wonderful follow up Kins – sorry I’m so late in catching up to this one. Are you _sure_ this isn’t the antepenultimate chapter (hahaha)??? I want to 2nd Tibetter24 – It feels like there might be a wee bit more before their/your journey comes to a close. Not that I want everything wrapped up in a neat little package but I’m so curious about the fallout back at the foundation (not to mention what became of Shane, Augustine, Ellie…). Recounting the extent of Tina’s injuries was hard to read but I loved how sweet and caring Bette is for her here. Echoing the sentiments of your fans, kudos for another incredibly well written chapter! This is and has been a most enjoyable story. Eagerly awaiting more :) xx – iHH.
