    Chapter 28

     
    Bette automatically dropped her head and kissed the blonde crown. She withheld a sigh of her own, secretly relishing the first outward sign of Tina’s affection. She mirrored the embrace, wrapping her own arms around the fragile woman.
    Their interaction so far had been more than tentative and had left Bette very unsettled. She had brushed the feeling aside though not only with that but also with her still vivid recollection of the interminable hours which had surrounded the discovery of a missing Tina and her dramatic rescue. 
    All Bette wanted to do at this moment was to concentrate on Tina’s recovery.
     
    For a minute or two, they stood there under the warm spray, silent. Bette reached up and ran her fingers softly through Tina’s wet locks, drawing another soft sigh from the blonde.
     
    Tina was clearly troubled. Her mind was processing her situation and Bette was unable to help.
    "Would you like me to help you wash?" Bette asked dropping her head even closer to speak directly into Tina’s ear. Her tone was soft.
    Once again, Tina lifted her head to meet the brown gaze. She nodded her agreement.
    "Okay …. shampoo first?" Bette asked reaching for the bottle and squeezing some of its content in the palm of her hand.
    Slowly and thoroughly, she applied the fragrant gel to the blonde wet locks taking care when she rubbed over the areas of Tina’s head she knew were tender. She held one side of Tina’s head while the other gently massaged her scalp, to avoid any unnecessary straining on the part of the blonde to hold her head upright and maintain her balance.  
    Bette took her time, carefully washing the long locks and guiding the blonde head under the spray of the shower to rinse the white soapy foam away.
    Tina felt the care and tenderness in Bette’s actions and she let out a small moan at the calming touch. But as completely as this sense of well being had invaded her, a wave of guilt soon washed over her again making her heart clench and her eyes close even tighter.
    "Did I hurt you?" came the worried tones of the brunette.

    2. This chapter is really well written, could feel the intensity and nervousness of it all. Especially the interaction between those two, and the reliving of the nightmare. Only one more chapter…boo

    3. As Jackiet said, “only 1 more chapter, BOO,” I agree totally. Felt the pain and anguish both of them were feeling during that shower. Really hate to see this story end, maybe you can give us more on their budding relationship and see if Bette goes to US with Tina if she decides to leave earlier than she had planned or even if she decides to live in Africa with Bette. Give us more about their relationship and budding love. Just reaching because I hate to see it end. Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful story.

    12. I’m so glad Tina has Bette there so support her through her healing process. It isn’t easy for either of them. I could feel the anguish Bette was feeling as she explained to Tina what happened to her. Even though she hasn’t used the word yet I think it’s apparent that she feels a deep love for Tina.

Kins!… you just made me do some happy dance … :D LOL… somehow knowing that this is NOT the last chapter is so exciting, THOUGH after that when realized that means only one more chapter to go makes me kinda in blue :-( Anyway… this chapter is so beautifully painful … or painfully beautiful eh?? .. :-p the way you play with words always amazed me! even simple scene as showering (pure showering! ;-p) also become some great scene in your hand. Amazing! … ^_^ I do hope the next chapter will be covering the future for them too.. if not, well.. maybe you can do that in the prologue?! :-p LOL.. with all due respect Kins, it’s your call as it’s your privilege as the writer! ;-) I’ll stick around for any update for you for sure. BTW one year older not always wiser as wise person with young heart is not an easy one to find! ;-)

    19. Hi Kins40, Thank you for creating another wonderful and intense chapter. Every moment was fleshed out to perfection as Bette and Tina struggled with the reality of this attack and aftermath.     25. I love, love, love this story, and will be so sad to see it end, but I’ve loved the ride. Your writing is exquisite, the emotion you manage to convey is so real and moving.I am not sure whether it is because you have captured the real essence of my motherland, or your beautiful portrayal of these characters, but this is one of my favorite stories. Brava.

    26. Wonderful follow up Kins – sorry I’m so late in catching up to this one. Are you _sure_ this isn’t the antepenultimate chapter (hahaha)??? I want to 2nd Tibetter24 – It feels like there might be a wee bit more before their/your journey comes to a close. Not that I want everything wrapped up in a neat little package but I’m so curious about the fallout back at the foundation (not to mention what became of Shane, Augustine, Ellie…). Recounting the extent of Tina’s injuries was hard to read but I loved how sweet and caring Bette is for her here. Echoing the sentiments of your fans, kudos for another incredibly well written chapter! This is and has been a most enjoyable story. Eagerly awaiting more :) xx – iHH.
