    Savannah

"Is that so?" Bette interrupted with an arched eyebrow trying as best she could to not let show, the smile which was tugging at the corners of her mouth. "And what would those be?"
Tina noticed and realised the beautiful brunette was on to her. "The Foundation needs a full time accountant!" The blonde replied trying to keep her face as straight as possible.
"And where is the Foundation going to find one of those?" Bette enquired this time with two arched eyebrows.
"I know someone!" Tina announced almost proudly "She used to be an auditor, excellent qualifications, doesn’t mind travelling, she would be ideal!"
Bette pondered the offer for a second, "Used to be an auditor?"
"Well… she is about to quit her job!" Tina supplied realising that Bette was missing some information.
    "Is she pretty?"
"Heyy!!!"  Tina whined swatting her lover with her bandaged arm this time.
"Oww!" There was a cry of pain but this time it did not come from Tina. The blonde’s metal brace had collided with Bette’s nose in her playful chastising of the vet.
"Oh baby… I’m sorry … Are you okay?"
Holding her nose with one hand and pressing into the corners of her eyes to curtail the flow of tears which wanted to escape, Bette replied, " Yeah…. I am fine ….. really!"
Tina laughed at how her "fine" really sounded more like "fide" and asked, "Let me see!"
Bette reluctantly let go of her nose and offered her face for scrutiny.
"Awwww baby…. Just as beautiful as ever!"
They burst out laughing and lips met with tenderness.
"I love you so much!" Bette whispered forgetting about her throbbing nose to concentrate on the soft lips of the woman who had just told her in the cutest way that she wanted to stay and live in Africa with her.
A sudden gust of wind swept the veranda and threatened to blow away the light blanket which covered the two women.
They parted from their kiss, surprised by the sudden erratic change in atmospheric condition.
A deep, long and low rumble was heard and the pitch-black sky lit up almost immediately with a tell-tale electrical display. The first bolt split the night sky in half while subsequent flashes illuminated their surroundings in intermittent pockets between the clouds.
They had not noticed the arrival of the thunder clouds which now seemed to blot out the full moon.
Something special was happening right now.
    Tina looked at Bette inquisitively.
"The rainy season is about to start." The vet answered the accountant’s silent question.
As Bette finished her word, the storm instantly drew nearer and the thunder became louder signalling that rain was imminent.
Momentarily unsettled with Mother’s nature display of might, Tina pushed further back into Bette, who welcomed her further into her embrace, if it were possible.
"This is a very special time of the year, here in Africa," Bette explained, "Everything changes."
Bette’s last words were immediately punctuated with the landing of a fat rain drop on the white wash railing which delimited the wide balcony. It landed in small splash, quickly followed by several others.  The rain started, pelting down around them but the two women did not move from their sheltered confine.
As Bette reached over again to secure the throw around their bodies in the quickly freshening temperature, she started describing the meaning of the rain in this part of the world.
Leaves would again adorn the many species of trees in the savannah. New growth would revive the previously stark and bare bushes and shrubs, which had seemed to have died in the summer heat.
Rivers would fill again, bringing with it new life from afar. The grasslands on the edges of the pans will colour with strong green grass.
Every nook and crevice will become an opportunity for new life to evolve, down to old tracks and trails left by animals. The dry, hardened spoor will fill up with the new rain, offering a haven for the smallest species.
Tina listened as Bette described this new season so passionately.

"A new lease of life," Tina summarised.
"Yes, it is….. Everything gets a new lease of life….. the chance at a new beginning." The words were uttered directly into Tina’s ear.
Bette’s soft breath caressed her ear and Tina shivered, "A new beginning," she repeated before lips connected once again
    The End

    1. No matter how beautifully I write my comment I wont be able to reach your level, but I will try…….. You ARE an exceptionally brilliant writer and your stories take my breath away. Specially the way you describe Tina….. I know that I have told you this before, but I cant help it. You make everything so wonderful, full of love and tender and delicate and sensual…. I hope you post an epilogue soon and then next story. I am ready, more than ready for your next story. Love is in the air.

    2. This was amazing. Just like ALL of your stories. I would love a sequel to this and any other stories that you will be posting. I cannot thank you enough for taking us on this wonderful journey once again with Bette and Tina. You write them so well. I can hardly wait for the next one. Cheers!

    3. 12! BRAVA! Crawling out of my cave just to say I heart this story, this happy ending, this hope-filled, new beginning. Many thanks for writing and sharing this story, kins. Looking forward to glimpses of their life together in the savannah. Cheers! =)

    4. 5! I have loved each and every chapter of this beautifully written story. As others have indicated, I too, will miss seeing updates on this one. But I will look forward to any/every future project from you. Thank you for sharing your gift with us!

    5. I was wondering how long you were going to make us wait for the post-penultimate(?) chapter! But it was worth the wait. Just lovely. You created a wonderful story. Now, not to be piggy or anything, but “29” IS kind of a lopsided number to end on… in case you were thinking of an Epilogue or anything…

    6. You left them in that shower for so long that they ran out of hot water LOL. Bad bad K ; 0 An amazing journey. This is an instant classic for me. One of those stories that I will wear the server down from reading over and over. Thank you so much and looking forward to reading more from you.

    7. Sad to see this end. But yet I know you will have something even more propelling and beautiful up your sleeve. You have this earnest way you write so freely and painstakingly a myriad of beautifully woven word that flow like a river. As are indeed as beautiful as the Savannah you describe. I would be number 24. Although I do not understand completely what you’ve asked of us readers but still my contribution nonetheless.

    8. 23. I couldn’t help but think of the number on Tina’s letter. As for this wonderful tale, though I have been remiss in commenting, I have loved every chapter. I just watched a tv special titled “The Secret Language of Elephants” and couldn’t help but think of your Savannah. As I watched the gathering place of some 50 elephants and the woman who has spent two decades saving them, my mind wandered to your vet and her Foundation. Adorable ending with Tina admitting to Bette that she had failed her…as if that were possible! Would love to see an epilogue or random chapters. Thanks for sharing your talent!

    9. 13 – WELL DONE!!!! Sad to see this one come to an end! Perhaps the epilogue would include the new accountant and the sequel about the vet, the accountant & Ellie? thank you for sharing this with us! Hope

    10. OMG I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS IS THE END,THIS STORY HAS GREAT POTENCIAL TO CONTINUE AND IN MY HUMBLE OPINION,YOU SHOULD MAKE A SEQUEL,”SAVANNAH II”.NOT ALL SEQUELS ARE BAD,WITH YOUR IMAGINATION,YOU AMAZING WRITING,YOU COULD MAKE A VERY VERY GOOD SECOND PART

    11. 6. Its a new beginning is such a wonderful start of rain season in Africa, this is the sweetest end of story ever ;DI’m sad that this amazing story end but I hope that you will gift us with new creation of yours soon. I enjoyed this story very much, I’ve been patiently waiting for the weekly updates ;D Thank you Kins40 for sharing it with us. And I think that this story can have sequel, maybe about Tina’s settling in Africa, her family reactions, the new changes in Bette’s life, I don’t know your the writer, I know you will do an amazing work once you start it ;D

    12. **23** (sigh) Exquisite and well worth waiting for :). What a beautiful ending to an amazing story. And in true fashion you’ve kind of left us with the hope (you big tease) of an epilogue or occasional “update” down the road – my you do find new ways to reinvent the art of the cliffy now don’t you ;) I have loved every moment of this story Kins, and will look forward to anything you write in the future. A massive THANK YOU and three cheers in appreciation for you sharing Savannah with all of us! xxx iHH

    13. 10 Kins! It’s for the 10 of 10! ;-) I can’t believe that I saw word “finale” on the AN … Luckily I managed to have some internet connection as I am overseas. It’s a nice surprise to see your posting after several days being away from all this technology called internet :-p and I do welcome your idea of “situations” in the future and absolutely happy to hear about a probabilty of having epilogue after this. I hope the love, cuteness, tenderness, sweetness, and steadfastness you shared through this story of Tibette will inspired more people ;-) thanks Kins for another amazing story! :-) btw I love the way you unfold the unspoken about T’s stay in Africa, it shows that they are really fated together although it took some journey in life to reach that point. :-)

    14. Thank you for the finale chapter, I could picture the scene with them in the window seat-with the movie Desert Hearts. I am so glad that Tina is going to stay with Bette. I Loved This Story, and I Would Love A Sequel.

    22. I second all those emotions! What a lovely, unique story and I definitely enjoyed it. I’m rooting for an epilogue—perhaps our favorite couple may have another encounter with their elephant friend…

    23. Hey you, Savannah Queen! What an outstanding finale!! You outdid yourself again. I like this final scene which involves so many symbols: new beginning, new life, but also cleansing and renewal. Beautiful image. I’m sad to see this story end, I got really attached to the vet and the auditor! And by the way, you’re THINKING about an epilogue??? Just THINKING??? You’re kidding me, right? This ending CALLS… No wait, it BEGS for an epilogue!!! And you’re so good with epilogues anyway! So please… Will you take us just one more time to the Savannah and our ladies? Thanks in advance. And hooooo, I’m so curious about that little project of yours… So my number will be… Hmmmm… Okay, let’s make it significant, I choose to be 37!! ;) So looking fwd to what you have in mind!
