    Seemingly Lost Chptr. 16

“Well I may have quit my job and I’m sure the people at Tina’s office are going crazy without her.” Bette said before she had a chance to catch herself.

    “What do you mean?”

“It’s complicated Raine.” Bette said avoiding eye contact and mentally berating herself for not catching herself before hand and trying to fix up her salad.

“Well I’ve got time. Hell I’ve got nothin’ but time, today’s kinda my off day. So…” she looked at Bette expectantly. Bette dropped her shoulders feeling deflated and drained from the flight and everything that was going down today.

“I’m sure you don’t want to hear about it Raine it’s very complicated and I don’t think it would be appropriate for me to tell you, a member of Tina’s family all of her personal business without her knowledge.”

By now Raine’s head was cocked to the side and her eyes were fixed on Bette’s lips as though she was watching the words fall from Bette’s mouth “Does this have something to do with the fact that Tina’s in love with you and she’s marrying that cousin of yours?” Bette damn near cut off her finger as the young girl had caught her off guard. “Oh come on Bette I was young but not stupid. I saw the way you guys would steal glances of each other when the other wasn’t lookin’ I didn’t figure out until I was older that those looks were of love not just simple glances.” she said plainly and stealing a piece of Bette’s chicken. Bette was struck by her ability to speak the truth without censor.

“Well… sort of… we…” Bette stopped and sighed and looked back up at the girl with eyes so blue and bright she couldn’t help but feel captivated by her. “So you say you got nothing but time?” Bette said taking some salad in and looking back up at the girl.

From an onlooker view point they looked to be old friends caught in a deep conversation. But the reality of it all was Bette was still a little confused and Raine was taking every bit of information in.

“…And I just got in about a few hours ago.”

    1. I am so happy to see this story back. I’m glad Tina’ family is sympathetic to Bette’ plight. She knows she hurt Tina badly, but she was trying to save her from an even greater hurt. I hope they get to talk without a lot of yelling.
