    Seemingly Lost Chptr. 16

“Well,” she said turning and sitting with her back against the wall with her feet up just as Bette was. “I hope you know what you’re gonna say. Because Tina has always bullied her way in cutting through people’s conversations, ya know?”

“I know she always did win in all of our debates. Somehow she always made you see things from her perspective.”

“Yeah, ya know what? I haven’t seen that Tina in a long time. When I was in L.A. checking out some colleges and stuff, I spent the week with her and Justine…”

“Wait a minute when was this, I don’t remember you coming out to L.A?”

“I think Tina said you were up north in some city called Oakland or whatever.” Bette nodded her head as the trip came back to her “But anyways I was staying with Tina and she was not the same girl I remembered. She was just so… subservient and passive. Justine came home late the day we were supposed to got out to dinner and we waited and waited for her and she didn’t come home until about 10 or 11. She threw Tina some random ass excuse and walked on through like it was nothing.”

    “Tina didn’t say anything?”

“Yeah, they went on back and started arguing. But Tina just didn’t have that same spitfire she used to, ya know? It was like she just accepted the fact that she was late, didn’t call, and didn’t even have the decency to apologize properly to Tina and me. I don’t know I just didn’t see the real Tina when I was there.”

“Yeah that sounds about right. Justine has a way with her that is just…”

“That’s bullshit. To just blame Justine is to blame the horse for throwing a shoe. Tina allowed herself to fit into that life of passivity and self worthlessness. Justine only has much power as Tina gives her. Truth is you and everyone else who didn’t say anything to stop her are as much to blame as Justine.” to this statement Bette was shocked and a baffled look crossed her face. “Let me paint it out for you.”

    “Please do.”

“If you see your friend drinking herself to death , do you try and stop her?”

    1. I am so happy to see this story back. I’m glad Tina’ family is sympathetic to Bette’ plight. She knows she hurt Tina badly, but she was trying to save her from an even greater hurt. I hope they get to talk without a lot of yelling. I really love this story and hope you continue to write it to the and I can’t wait to read the next chapter even sporadic posts are better than none at all. Keep writing please.
