    Oh dear God! Sweeter words were never spoken. I have waited my entire life for this. Not just to be wanted, but to be needed. To know that someone needs me, and not just anyone…her. She needs me. How did I get so lucky? To be here with her in this moment? No underlying expectations. No manipulations. Just simply an opportunity to reach beyond myself for a change and actually offer comfort without a hidden agenda. Oh yes, this changes everything.

    I pulled the covers back and slowly slip into bed and wait for her to join me. She is a little timid at first and I catch a glimpse of a shy 5 year old with blonde pig tails and a crooked smile twisting her shirt tail nervously, but then a little giggle escapes and I know she is not having second thoughts. She sits and then shifts her body slightly in an attempt to lie back on the pillow. I can’t help but smile. She is so cute when she’s like this. I want to give her space and time to acclimate, so I wait for her to make her requests known, and soon she does.

    “Will you hold me babe? I need to feel your arms around me.”

    Sense #2: Touch
    The Somatosensory System, or the sense of touch, allows the human body to experience pressure and texture, temperature, pain, and perceive the position and movement of the body’s muscles and joints. The function of the receptor cells in the skin can be broken down into three categories: the mechanoreceptors which sense pressure and texture, the thermoreceptors which sense temperature, and the nociceptors which sense pain.

    Dr. William Collinge has a theory that when we touch or are in close physical proximity with another, there is a real transfer of energy between us. We are ”touched” and no doubt ”penetrated” by each other’s energy field. All kinds of contact (casual, intimate, as well as contact for healing purposes) involve a co-mingling of our energy field with that of another.
