“I had a great college fund – five years of very expensive tuition and my living costs – it wasn’t cheap. He always told me of the sacrifices that he made to give me the education that he did. He was usually using it as weapon to throw at me when he was lambasting me about being a dyke “
“Did he have a gambling problem ?” Tina asked
“He likes the high life – he likes playing poker “
“So could he blow however many thousands gambling ?”
“I don’t have a lot of respect for him – he’s been a shit about my sexuality. That’s why I don’t want you to meet him- I know he would be disrespectful to you and I don’t intend to put you through that ordeal. As for could he spend all my college fund – I don’t think so “
“So its his word against hers “ Tina summed up
Bette nodded “ I need to know which one of them is lying “
Tina sipped her scotch and put the glass down
“You know that I want to be with you when you face him “
“No “
“Yes Bette – my place is by your side and I want to be there. I will not let you go through this alone “
Bette let a few tears fall – she rubbed them away and kissed Tina
“Thanks “
“Don’t mention it – any time “
“What did you make of her ? “ Bette asked after a few more minutes silence
“Hard to assess – I did get spooked when she said my name – and she said what she did about you and I – that she had been to your exhibitions “
“I know – scary eh “
Tina nodded – she was processing what they had both heard from Bette’s mom.
“Do you think there is a trust fund there for you ?”
“If she paid for my college education maybe she is well off enough to have a trust fund for me. But I am not interested Tina – she’s not going to buy me off “
Tina reached into her pocket and took out the business card – she read it
“Wow – Bette “
“What ?”
“Manhattan Drive Investments – CEO Elizabeth Porter “
Bette raised an eyebrow
“So ?”
“Aaron has been buttering up investors for a big movie project that we are trying to get off the ground “
Bette looked again at the card
“And he’s been chasing these lot ?”
Tina nodded “Name rings a bell – I would have to ask some questions but it does sound familiar. Put it this way Bette “
Bette looked at her and nodded
“If she is the CEO of this investment group and she’s got a trust fund for you – well its going to be major “
“How major ?”
There were times when the two lovers didn’t have to speak – their faces were expressive enough. Tina just looked at Bette for long enough to make her point
“Really ?” Bette said finally
Tina nodded
“God “ said Bette “So she’s going to think that she can buy me off ? Well if she really thinks a flash fucking trust fund will make up for 27 fucking years of abandonment she is in for a fucking shock”

I know Bette is pisssed, well probably more than pissed at her mom but I think she should at least listen to what she has to say. If Melvin has been untruthful to her all these years what makes her think he will tell her everything now? I don’t think her mom is trying to buy her affection how could she after 27 years. Speak to her mom and see what she has to say about why she left without her all those years ago and then talk to her dad and see if any of the story matches. Most mothers will not leave thier children unless something horribl ecauses them to. I hope Bette gets all her answers she deserves it and I’m glad Tina is right there by her side. PPS
Nice twist girl. I think that Bette should talk to her mother to see exactly what she has to say. She has listen to Melvin all of her life and this way she will be comming from a position of strength and knowledge when she speaks to Melvin. At least her mother is adcepting of her and Tina as a couple. PPS:o).
I would like to hear the reason Bette’s mother for abandoning her. Must be big if she schose to stayed away all those years. Is she sick? :D And the trust fund ha….curious…LOL
