    The Courtroom

Kit’s expression softens, but her concern remains. She takes a step closer, her voice low but firm.

Kit: But are you sure? This isn’t just about what you feel now. This is about a family. You, Bette and kids, you have something real, Tina. You can’t just throw that away without thinking it through. Don’t make a decision out of anger or hurt. You both deserve better than that.

Tina looks away, her gaze distant as her chest tightens. The years of love, pain, and everything in between flash before her eyes. She wants to respond, to say something that could make it all right, but the truth hangs heavy in her heart.

Tina (quietly, with a heavy sigh): I don’t know if we can fix it, Kit. I don’t know if we’re the same people anymore.

Kit’s hand rests on her shoulder, grounding her. There’s no judgment in her touch, just love and support.

Kit (softly): You don’t know until you try, Tina. You can’t let the hurt guide you. You’ve got to trust yourself, trust your heart. Just… don’t make a decision you can’t undo.

Tina swallows hard, her heart torn between the desire to fix everything and the reality that things may never go back to how they were. She nods slowly, torn but grateful for Kit’s unwavering support.

Kit squeezes her shoulder one last time before stepping back, offering a reassuring smile before she turns to leave with the kids. Angelica and Bradley are already waiting by the door, their little backpacks on, ready for the day ahead.

As Kit walks out the door, Tina stands there for a moment, lost in thought. Her heart aches for the family she once had, the life she thought would always be.

Tina watches them leave, her resolve firming as she takes in the day a head uncertain, but determined. She takes a deep breath, hoping that, in time, she can find a way to heal not just herself, but the family she’s trying so hard to protect.

After the kids leave, Tina heads to the bathroom, her mind still heavy with lingering thoughts. She reaches for the shower, turning the knob to let the hot water cascade down. The steam fills the small space, wrapping her in warmth. She steps under the flow, allowing the heat to soak into her tired muscles, easing the tension that’s settled deep in her shoulders and neck. For a few moments, she stands there with her eyes closed, the steady stream of water washing over her, as if it could cleanse away the weight of her worries, even if just for a brief moment.

    1. A great start to this story! I’m hooked already. I really like the part where Bette addressed the judge and then Tina spoke directly to her. And the part where Bette whispers to herself that she’ll bring them back together.

Looking forward to reading more. Thanks for sharing your story here!

    3. This is a great story! Nice job!
I must tell you, accidentally I stumbled on this one on another website and there this first chapter is much much longer, with Tina’s POV. Can you fix that, for other readers here, please?

      • Thank you so much
I’m really glad you’re enjoying the story and yes the longer version with Tina’s POV was part of an extended draft I shared elsewhere. I’ll definitely update it here too so everyone can get the full experience from both perspectives.
