    The Courtroom

Tina wakes up with a groan, feeling the exhaustion in her body from another restless night. Her muscles ache as though she hasn’t slept at all, her mind spinning with thoughts of what could have been. The clock on her nightstand reads 6:30 AM. She sighs deeply, rubbing her eyes, the fatigue from her sleepless nights weighing heavily on her. Each night is a blur of tossing and turning, her thoughts racing over the decisions she’s made questions about whether they were the right ones, if her children will feel the weight of her choices and she can’t help but wonder is Bette waking up missing her too? The thought drifts through her mind, a fleeting moment of vulnerability. It’s hard to imagine that she is, but the ache in her heart doesn’t lie. She misses her too.

She drags herself out of bed, her feet barely making a sound against the soft carpet as she shuffles toward the bathroom. The cool tile underfoot is a small shock to her tired system, but it’s a welcome jolt that helps clear her mind, even if just for a moment. Her reflection in the mirror looks back at her tired, a little worn, but still holding it together. She runs her hands through her hair, pulls on her robe, and goes through the motions of her morning routine, brushing her teeth and splashing water on her face to wake up.

Once done, she heads to the kitchen. The dim light from outside dances on the counter as she moves around. She starts the coffee maker, today opting for a stronger brew something that’ll hopefully give her a little jolt of energy to face the day. The machine hums quietly as the coffee drips slowly into the pot, filling the room with a rich, comforting scent.

Leaning against the counter, Tina takes a deep breath, closing her eyes for a moment. She’s surrounded by silence no bustling kids yet, no conversations to break the stillness. She stares out the window, watching as the world outside begins to wake up. The sky is still a soft blue, the sun not fully risen yet. She wishes she could just hold on a little longer to the peaceful moment, that maybe it would help her find some sense of calm. But deep down, she knows that time is moving forward, and so must she.

    1. A great start to this story! I’m hooked already. I really like the part where Bette addressed the judge and then Tina spoke directly to her. And the part where Bette whispers to herself that she’ll bring them back together.

Looking forward to reading more. Thanks for sharing your story here!

    3. This is a great story! Nice job!
I must tell you, accidentally I stumbled on this one on another website and there this first chapter is much much longer, with Tina’s POV. Can you fix that, for other readers here, please?

      • Thank you so much
I’m really glad you’re enjoying the story and yes the longer version with Tina’s POV was part of an extended draft I shared elsewhere. I’ll definitely update it here too so everyone can get the full experience from both perspectives.
