“Come in,” Bette responded when the door remained closed.
Tina opened the door slowly and peeked her head in.
“I’m sorry to disturb you.”
“It’s okay. I was just about to read for a little while.”
Tina nodded.
“Ummm…I brought you some extra towels. Need anything else?”
Bette watched Tina place the towels on the dresser.
“Thank you. I think I’m okay.”
Tina noticed the empty glass.
“More wine?”
“Umm…no thank you. I have an early start tomorrow. Oh, thanks for unpacking. You didn’t have to do that.”
“I’m sorry if I overstepped. Habit, I guess.”
“It was nice.” Bette looked at her hands.
Tina nodded and started to close the door. Bette watched her pause and she held her breath.
“It’s…umm…It’s…umm, I’m glad I could help you with your housing dilemma.”
Bette nodded.
“Okay. Well, goodnight.” Tina said as she left the room.
“Goodnight.”
Tina closed the door. “Housing dilemma? So stupid,” Tina mouthed. She rolled her eyes at herself.
On the other side of the door, Bette exhaled as a tear fell down her right cheek. Then she sent Shane a text.
Bette: You will never guess where the fuck I am right now?
Shane: ??
Bette: Tina’s apartment.
Shane: What!
Bette: I’m staying with her.
Shane: Wait. How the fuck did that happen?
Bette: Long story. But I’m here now and I’m freaking the fuck out.
Shane: Shit
Bette: My sentiments.
Shane: Everything happens 4 a reason. Now is ur chance 2 find out what’s bigger. Look at this as an opportunity
Bette: A fucking fucked up opportunity. Ugh. I’ll tell you all about it tomorrow.
Shane: Try 2 get some sleep
Bette: Not likely.
How could Bette sleep with Tina so close yet so far away? Bette pulled the covers up to her chin and looked over at the empty space next to her. She scooted down in the bed and stared at the ceiling.
Tina stayed leaned against the door she’d just closed for several minutes. Needing to be near Bette while giving her space. She couldn’t believe Bette was there on the other side of the door. So many thoughts were running through her mind. She tried to still her mind to no avail. She pushed herself off of the door and placed her hand on it for a heartbeat.
Tina walked slowly to the other room. Biting her lip. She kept hearing Julia repeat patience. She sat on the bed and grabbed the back of her neck. Finally, she called Alice.
“Hey Tee!”
“Hey,” Tina whispered.
“Speak up. Why are you whispering?”
“Because Bette is in the other room,” Tina continued to whisper.
“WHAT!” Alice screamed.
“Bette just showed up on my doorstep needing a place to stay and now, she’s laying in the bed in the room down the hall. staying with me.”
Alice heard the tremble in Tina’s voice. Oh, shit. This was not good, she thought. If she had known this was the plan, she would not have gone along with it.
“Are you okay?”
“No, I’m not okay. I’m scared I’m going to fuck it all up.”
“Is Bette okay?”
“What do you think, Al?” Tina said sarcastically.
“Fuck me. What are you going to do?”
“I…um…nothing. I miss her so much. I love her so much but she has repeatedly asked me to give her time. My therapist has repeatedly told me to have patience. So, that’s what I’m going to do.”
“Hard to give someone space when you’re living together.”
“You’re telling me. I jumped into her arms when I opened the door. This is not going to be easy.”
“Let me know if I can do anything.”
“Thanks, Al”
“Tee…”
“Yeah?”
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s not your fault.”
Oh if you only knew, Alice thought.

Bette is too upset to eat even though there is plenty of food for both of them. This is going to be hard on both of them. Bette needs to at least be gracious enough to join her in her meals when she is at the apartment. Then relax and do the normal things she came on the trip for – work on the exhibit and get things done. Both Bette and Tina are now in the over-thinking phase. Just let things go…. deal with what is for a day or so. Concentrate on a “no drama stay”. Talk when you are ready….

They are both dealing with a lot of feelings. And it’s going to be a journey. This chapter was meant to highlight their emotions. And as you can see, they are both all over the place. Tina is trying to give Bette her space. Hopefully, she continues to honor that. And Bette is trying to figure out which is bigger.

Tina is in a sexual frenzy. Get a grip woman. Bette is so hurt she can’t even eat dinner. Oh yes, Kiki and Alice this is a great plan! Not often that I read and shake my head at the same time. What to do? What to do? Really like this story.
The sexual tension is only going to get more intense. Let’s hope they figure out how to talk to each other.

What a mess they are both in, so many feelings that Bette couldn’t even eat.
