    The Feature

Bette clasped her hand over her mouth and the tears started again. AJ looked up at her.

    “Are you cwying?”

Bette wiped her face and smiled at AJ.

    “Yes, I am.”

“It’s okay. Everybody cwies,” AJ said.

Then he hugged her leg. Bette laughed.

She looked over her shoulder at Tina standing behind her. Bette nodded in thank you. They stayed that way for another heartbeat. Neither one of them wanted to break their closeness. Bette remembered they weren’t alone. And she was certain her family…their family was watching them intently. Bette took a step forward. She was still looking back. Tina dropped her hand and nodded you’re welcome in return.

KiKi came running up behind them. She squeezed them both.

“What do you think, My Dears?”

“I don’t know what to say,” Tina said as she hugged KiKi again.

“KiKi, you are brilliant. Completely brilliant,” Bette smiled her best Porter smile.

    “Was it worth the wait?”

“I have more gray hairs than when I started but it was worth the wait.”

AJ was still hugging Bette’s leg.

“Hey Monkey Man, let’s let Ms. Bette talk to all these people,” Lexie said.

    “Okay…”

AJ let go of Bette’s leg. Bette crouched down.

    “Thank you for coming.”

    “Welcome,” AJ smiled.

“I am so happy you’re here. It was the best surprise.”

“Ms. Tee-na said you’d like it.”

    “She did?”

Bette looked up at Tina. Tina couldn’t keep her eyes off of Bette.

    “Yep.”

“Well, Ms. Tina was right. I am a little confused as to how you are here.”

“We came on Ms. Tee-na’s plane.”

    “You did?”

    “Uh huh.”

Bette looked at Tina again. This time Tina looked down.

“Okay. I’ve got to talk to these nice people now. But I will see you soon, right?”

Bette looked at Adam and Lexie.

“We are here until Monday,” Adam said.

Bette stood up and hugged them both.

“Oh good!” Bette seemed genuinely excited.

The next thing Bette knew, she was surrounded by several guests wanting to talk to her and KiKi. Cameras were being thrust in their face. She was grateful when she saw Kit, Alice, Shane and Dana approaching Tina. James appeared next to Bette and reminded her of an interview with The Morning Show. Bette nodded. She looked over in Tina’s direction again and they were hugging and laughing.

    1. Wow, what a speech by Tina and the response by Bette. Somehow, I do not see the sun coming up tomorrow without Bette seeing Tina. Bette needs Tina tonight… just to be close and to have that connection to have some kind of landing for this deeply emotional night. I think this has been very emotional for Tina as well. This is not about sex but love and connection. They need just to be wrapped in each other’s arms and allow the moment to be…. quiet and relaxing.

Thank you for this chapter… love the reference to Bette’s toast to Dana and Tonya. That was really message to Tina from Bette, but a return in this story form Tina to Bette. Great way to use that speech.

      Thanks again for writing ….

      • Lol. Yes, and for me the hardest part is not just throwing something together. I try to really get into each of the characters. Sometimes it takes a little longer to write this way. But I hope the results are worth the wait.
