    The Feature

    “Oh fuck,” Alice said.

Shane elbowed her and then motioned towards AJ. Alice mouthed sorry to Lexie and Adam.

    God, she’s beautiful, Tina thought.

Tina didn’t say anything and then realized she was staring.

    “Umm…what?”

Tina blew out all of the air in her lungs. She took another deep breath and exhaled slowly.

“You said you were leaving. Where are you going?” Bette repeated.

Bette needed to know if Tina was staying in LA or going back to Vancouver.

“I’m going to drop them off at their hotel and then I’m going to corporate housing.”

    “Corporate housing?” Bette repeated.

“Yes. The studio has a vacant apartment. I will be staying there until…”

“Until what?” Bette cut her off.

Tina knew what Bette was asking.

“I will be staying there for a while.”

“A while? Corporate housing. You don’t have to get back to Vancouver?,” Bette accused.

    “No. The movie is wrapped.”

Bette’s eyes got big. She hid the surprise as soon as it flashed across her face. Tina caught it.

“The movie is wrapped? You finished it?”

    “Yes and I made Partner.”

Alice, Shane, Kit and Dana cheered.

    “How wonderful!”

    “Tina, that’s amazing!”

    “Way to go, Tina!”

    “Yayyyy, Tee!”

    “Congrats,” Bette finally said.

    “Thank you.”

James whispered something in Bette’s ear.

    “Bye, Ms. Bette.”

“Bye, AJ. But I will see you before you go back home. Would you like to come to my house and go swimming?”

    “Can we, Mommy? Pweeeeeeze?”

“That sounds like fun, Monkey Man.”

“Mommy said that sounds like fun.”

    Bette laughed.

“Okay. You can come over on Sunday.”

“Can Mommy and Daddy come too?”

    “They sure can.”

    “And Ms. Tee-na?”

Tina and Bette looked at each other.

    “If she would like to.”

    “Ms. Tee-na, wanna come swimming?”

    Tina looked at Bette.

“This kid is good,” Alice whispered to Shane.

    Shane just rolled her eyes.

    “I would love to.”

    “Yayyyyyy,” AJ sang.

Bette and Tina were still looking at each other when James grabbed Bette’s elbow. Bette ruffled AJ’s hair. He hugged her legs.

Bette looked back at Tina before she disappeared in the crowd again.

“Well, this is going to be fun, huh?” Alice couldn’t stop smiling.

    “Al!” Shane poked her.

    Adam and Lexie laughed.

    “They get it.”

“Tee, you want us to come over?” Dana asked.

“Earth to Tina,” Alice snapped her fingers in Tina’s face.

“Earth to Ms. Tee-na,” AJ giggled and grabbed Tina’s hand.

    “Not tonight, Al. But thanks.”

Tina needed to clear her head. Plus she had a call with Julia early in the morning.

    “Love you guys.”

“Love you too,” they all said at the same time.

Alice, Kit, Shane and Dana watched Tina walk out of the gallery with Adam, Lexie and AJ.

“Buckle up, Buttercups. This is about to be a bumpy ride.”

    They all looked at Alice.

“Babe, you’ve got to stop watching 8 Seconds.”

    “It’s such a good movie.”

    “I know you think so.”

    1. Wow, what a speech by Tina and the response by Bette. Somehow, I do not see the sun coming up tomorrow without Bette seeing Tina. Bette needs Tina tonight… just to be close and to have that connection to have some kind of landing for this deeply emotional night. I think this has been very emotional for Tina as well. This is not about sex but love and connection. They need just to be wrapped in each other’s arms and allow the moment to be…. quiet and relaxing.

Thank you for this chapter… love the reference to Bette’s toast to Dana and Tonya. That was really message to Tina from Bette, but a return in this story form Tina to Bette. Great way to use that speech.

      Thanks again for writing ….

      • Lol. Yes, and for me the hardest part is not just throwing something together. I try to really get into each of the characters. Sometimes it takes a little longer to write this way. But I hope the results are worth the wait.
