The Gathering – 01.98 – Like Me Now – Intro to the King Pt 5 – Meaning

“Jesse, come back here! You don’t understand, I’m doing this for you!” And Jesse

tumbled, running with only one shoe, he saw the air plane and he really got scared. His little legs pumped harder as he played ‘Stay Away From Grandpa’ for as long as he could, please come save me Shane? Sam? Anyone?

“Jesse? Jesse!” Jenny yelled into the phone, and Marina grabbed her cell phone and called Sam, telling her that Jesse seemed to be fighting the old man. Jenny held the phone tightly as Kit took it from her, the calmer older woman listened, and she heard scuffling, screaming and Jesse yelling ‘No’. Marty took Kit’s hand and she said in a calm voice, her eyes filling with tears as she hung up the phone.

                “The line just went dead.”

    *****

“*****, ***** ***** is dead.” Sam said as she slammed her fist into the steering wheel, she could feel Jesse slipping away from them, Shane’s face was serious as death, Alice reached over the seat and put her hand on Shane’s shoulder, and Shane reached up and took her hand. Human comfort, Jesse didn’t have that right now, for all he knew, he was running for his life, and he more than likely was.

“Sam.” Shane said in a dead cold voice, swallowing back her tears and putting on a brave face.

“Yeah.” Sam said, seeing the air strip on the horizon, come on Jesse think smart. She pushed the car a bit harder, nose to nose with Jo’s car now.

“He’s not taking him, we’ll track him down, if it takes a lifetime, I’m not losing our son.”

                “I know baby, I know.”

    *****

Jo’s car hit the entrance and the car bottomed out, they had a mile to go before coming face to face with the airplane that was a speck on the horizon right now. She set the cruise control and started to stand, she pulled her gun out and Amy slid into the driver’s seat.

“Is Emma on her way?” Jo asked, the force of the wind pushing her into the seat as she checked her gun, finding it loaded, she cocked it.
