    The Idea of Space

“Look… I’m sorry that I couldn’t make it out, I really am, but sometimes Angie is going to take priority,” Tina told her point blank, her features as controlled as they could possibly be beneath the weight of anxiety pressing on her chest. Carrie shook her head a little and gazed off toward the pool. She looked like she wanted to say something but didn’t. “I need to talk to you about some stuff, about us, and I need you to understand it.”

“You’ve been needing to talk to me about some stuff quite a bit lately, I’m starting to think you’re getting cold feet…” Carrie tried to laugh it off, create some levity, but when she turned her head to look back at the blue eyed woman seated there that two foot distance away, she saw Tina gazing back at her with a look on her face that spoke volumes. Tina bit the inside corner of her lips and didn’t say anything, not even a chuckle at the ’ridiculousness’ of Carrie’s joke. Which meant it wasn’t a joke. “Oh, Jesus… Really? Fuckin’ really, Tina?”

Carrie’s entire demeanor shifted and she got up from her chair to start pacing in front of the pool loungers, in front of the woman sitting there on one.

“We bought a freaking house!” Exclaimed the shorter, rounder woman who gestured with a strike of her index toward the serene looking building. Tina dropped her head into her hands and groaned for a second before they fell from her face, allowing her to look at the woman who continued to pace back and forth.

“I know we did, I know… It’s just… I can’t, I can’t do anything right now, I think I need some space and I need to talk to someone…” She explained, closing her magazine and dropping it beside her on the table with her coffee that had gone pretty much untouched.

“Then talk to someone! I’m right here! I’m somebody! But don’t run around saying stupid shit like you need space and that you can’t talk to me!”

That was part of the problem. Carrie couldn’t really tell what was going on. That was fair. But as Tina was trying to explain it, it wasn’t being addressed. She couldn’t control Carrie’s reaction and she understood that, she didn’t want to control her, but she also needed Carrie to see that this wasn’t some sort of ’cold feet’ situation. This was having something bigger, larger than the both of them, that was impactful to her life and well-being, now that she, herself, was starting to uncover it.

    1. Thank you for the chapter!

So now, when Carrie is out of the picture, Tina could do first step to understanding what the problem she has. I hope she would do it

    2. Carrie is a strange bird….. “No time” for Tina…. well, better to find out before the wedding than after….

Now, why did Tina stay at the Porter household for the weekend? Angie was dealing with stuff and she and Bette were going to do what? Angie has now revealed her feeling about her mother and Carrie and Tina has revealed that most of her decisions she made in recent years was in search of peace? And she hasn’t found it yet.

Has anything changed for Angie, Tina or Bette with respect to their relationships with each other as a result of the weekend? Does Angie still believe that Tina’s primary concern in her life is herself? Does this weekend of friendly chatter change that? It appears that she enjoyed the weekend of being together…. but probably nothing has happened to change Angie’s view of her mother Tina. That is going to take a lot more.

      Thanks for the chapter….

    3. Hi Sloane,

I know, I’m behind on my comments, but for good reason. Last Wednesday I became a very proud Aunt of my first niece!

What a total bitch Carrie is, I didn’t expect her to react like this. But well don’t shed a tear for her.

Now let Tina take a good look at herself and resolve her own issues and we’ll see how and when she and Bette can reunite.

You haven’t posted in a few days now, I hope you’re all right!
