The Perfect Getaway – Chapter 6

Bette suddenly felt very cheesy. Score one for Brian.

Tina saw the look on Bette’s face and instantly felt guilty for laughing at her wife. She got to her knees and moved to the edge of the boat.

She held out her hand for Bette to take, "Aw baby, I’m sorry. Come here"

Bette reluctantly swam over to Tina, glaring at her wife who was still so obviously fighting a smile.

She took Tina’s hand and in that moment, the blonde noticed the mischievous gleam in Bette’s eyes . . but it was too late.

In one swift movement Tina was flying up and over Bette’s head, hitting the crystal clear water with a loud splash.

Now it was Bette’s turn to laugh and when Tina resurfaced, that was the first thing she heard.

"Oh my God!" Brian exclaimed, in a fit of his own giggles. His newly dried face now sported droplets of water from Tina’s splash.

"Hey kid" Bette called out to Brian, holding up a hand to which he swam over and slapped his own tiny hand against.

It was instinctive and Bette didn’t even realize doing it until she felt Brian’s hand slap hers. She tried not to read too much into it, Brian was not cool.

"Oh very funny" Tina smiled as she wiped the excess water from her face.

They laughed for another minute before Bette spotted something out of the corner of her eye, a large grey fin. Her heart stopped.

"Everybody out of the water. Get out of the water!"

Both Tina and Brian turned to Bette’s panicked expression, noticing the grey fin headed in their direction.

"Tina, what are you waiting for?! Get out of the water!"

Tina was confused about Bette’s reaction mainly because of the location they were in but she didn’t say anything. It all became clear however when the fin got closer and Bette was dramatically throwing herself in front of Tina and Brian.

At that moment the owner of the grey fin chose to reveal itself and a shiny dolphin with a cheeky smile rose to greet the group of three. Bette’s cheeks warmed with embarrassment as she felt cheesy yet again.

    1. Great chapter. Bette can sometimes go off the rails and this was a doozy. When she can get her mind in gear she will do and say the right thing for Tina and herself. Thanks for posting.

    2. Ditto JP …. it’s all in the timing and oh boy did Bette get it wrong …majorly wrong..this was perfectly written Liah… the hill ahead will be hard to climb… but in your capable hands it’ll be sensational, I’m sure…Happy New Year to you ..Kx

    3. Sorry, I’m laughing at some of the comments. Could a vacation get any worse for our couple. I wonder what would have happened had they not had all the disruptions… just saying. Bette’s reactions are normal for someone who didn’t have both parents lovingly support her. We all have our foibles and fears. But, I’m quite sure that in the end she’ll be able to get it together for Tina’s sake. Thanks for an awesome posting!
