    The Roommates: Chapter 21

    Tina nodded.

Steven nodded as well and said, Yeah. Lets go downstairs.

Tracy leaned over and pulled her daughter into a tight embrace. I love you so much, Tina., she said. Steven came over and hugged them both.

I love you, too Sweetheart. We will get through this., he said.

The Kennards made their way downstairs and the turkey was finally carved. Things started out pretty quiet as family members kept darting their eyes at Tina. Slowly, things began to unthaw and the silence and clinks of silverware on ceramic plates were replaced by lively conversation and the traditional banter that everyone was used to. They were well into their meal when a sensitive topic came up.

Did you see where the ***** might be allowed to married?, asked Tinas grandfather, Franklin.

Oh, yes. They had that on the news last night. All of these ***** couples just lined up in the city trying to get married. I never heard of such., said her grandmother.

Its a crying shame if you ask me, said Steven. We got a couple of those ***** at work. They make me sick to my stomach. Faggots everywhere.

Tina suddenly felt sick to her stomach.

The lesbos too. Remember Veronica? And theres tons of them on campus with me. They are everywhere,, said Kaitlyn.

Yeah, thats right. And she comes from such a good family. I cant believe shes messing up her life like that. What did her parents say?, asked Tracy.

They dont have anything to do with her. I saw her brother on campus last week, he said they havent spoken to her in almost a year. Her parents wont even take her calls.

Thats going to be me. This pregnancy ***** is just the tip of the iceberg., thought Tina.

I cant believe it. And she was in this house. She didnt try anything with you girls did she?, asked Steven.

Tina just shook her head. She didnt have a voice anymore.

Oh no, Dad! If she had, everyone would have known about it., said Kaitlyn.

The whole world is going to ***** in a handbasket, said Franklin.

Its just sick. I mean, what could a man possibly want with another man? Or a woman with another woman? Its a total abomination., said her grandmother.

    1. I actually liked Tina’s parents for being big enough to stay calm about her pregnancy, then came dinner. I still cannot fathom why sexual orientation matters so much to some people. I hope that Tina will allow herself to love Bette with or without the consent of her family. I love this story, thank you for updating and I look forward to reading more. . .SOON!

    2. It’s so sad that we think we need to have it all together as humans. We look too much at what is different than to realize that we are a race of people. Thanks for writing a sensitive piece. Tina’s parents and family can change their thoughts if given a fair chance. Love can change people, selfishness cannot.

    3. Oh poor Tina, everything is driving her crazy and hard, she need time to rest and nothing bother her and let her and Bette meet and talk and be together. Hope thing will well with Tina. Please post soon, thank you! Great chapter!
