    The Roommates: Chapter 21

She was nearly asleep when her phone rang. It was her turn to be groggy.

    Hello?, she said.

    Its Bette.

Hey Bette. Is everything okay?, asked Tina.

Everything is fine. I just wanted to apologize. I was being a ***** earlier.

Oh, thank you. I thought something might be wrong., said Tina.

Yeah. I get like that sometimes. Especially when Melvin is nearby. So, how did things go with your parents?, asked Bette.

Things are okay right now. My dad was pretty pissed, but well talk about everything tomorrow. I just wanted to let you know that and thank you for talking with me earlier., said Tina.

Bette felt her heart warm and she suddenly felt bad about the resentment she was feeling. Oh, T. You are more than welcome. Im glad things are going okay.

Me too. I was a little too tightly wound. I just went off at the dinner table.

Wow. Dont stress yourself out, T. Just try and relax okay?, said Bette.

Ill try. How are things in Porter-ville?

Same *****, different day. Id rather not talk about it though. Well dish at a later date., said Bette.

Okay. I guess Ill take a rain check. I miss you, Bette.

I miss you too, T. Im going to let you get some rest.

Okay. I think we both need some of that. Ill talk to you later. Have a good night., said Tina.

You too. Sweet dreams., said Bette.

They ended their call and Tina settled into her pillow. As she lay there in the dark, her thoughts drifted back to the *****-bashing fest that had taken place at Thanksgiving dinner. Her parents still loved her and cared about her even though she was pregnant. But she was pretty sure theyd totally disown her if she were to come out as a *****. Tina thought it kind of sad that they would love her for a pregnancy she could prevent but would hate her for being a *****; something she felt she had no control over. Tina couldnt deny the excitement shed felt with both Veronica and Bette. Her feelings and desires were not a phase. They were real and sometimes overwhelming.

Tina thought about these things as her anxieties battled with fatigue until fatigue won and she drifted off to sleep.

    1. I actually liked Tina’s parents for being big enough to stay calm about her pregnancy, then came dinner. I still cannot fathom why sexual orientation matters so much to some people. I hope that Tina will allow herself to love Bette with or without the consent of her family. I love this story, thank you for updating and I look forward to reading more. . .SOON!

    2. It’s so sad that we think we need to have it all together as humans. We look too much at what is different than to realize that we are a race of people. Thanks for writing a sensitive piece. Tina’s parents and family can change their thoughts if given a fair chance. Love can change people, selfishness cannot.

    3. Oh poor Tina, everything is driving her crazy and hard, she need time to rest and nothing bother her and let her and Bette meet and talk and be together. Hope thing will well with Tina. Please post soon, thank you! Great chapter!
