    The Roommates: Chapter Six

Okay, lets stop thinking about Sidney and get back to Italiano. She thought.

As she struggled to commit Italian verbs to memory, Bette heard Tina moaning softly in her sleep. She looked over at her roommate and smiled, knowing how excited Tina was that Eric was coming to visit. Eric had decided to cut Friday classes. His plane was set to arrive tomorrow at around noon and at this thought, Bettes smile began to disintegrate. She would finally come face to face with the Great Eric Anderson. All week long, all shed heard from Tina was Eric, Eric, Eric. It really did please Bette to see her roommate smile, but she was tired of hearing about the love of Tinas life. More importantly, Bette didnt like that she was so resentful of a guy shed never even met. She knew he was probably a good person, but she resented the fact that the mere mention of his name could make Tina so happy. Despite how loving and perfect Sidney seemed, Bette still held Tina in the highest regard. At the end of the day, she wanted to be one that could make Tina happy. She wanted to be the one that could make Tinas eyes dance and her smile glow. Bette knew all these things and she resented herself for feeling so selfish. She wanted both the happiness she had with Sidney as well as all of Tinas heart and she knew that she couldnt have both. She felt horrible just wishing for both.

Bette had replayed the situation with Tina calling her baby nearly every day. She was now certain that Tina had in fact referenced her with this term of endearment. She was also certain that there was more to Tinas past than she was willing to discuss. Bette had a feeling that there was something lurking there just under the surface of Tinas calm demeanor. But she didnt want to press her and so she had resolved not to bring it up, even though she was dying to understand why Tina had crossed the lines of friendship twice last week without any explanation. Bette could even deal with a weak, bogus excuse, but Tina acted as if those incidents never existed. Bette had to assume that Tina had her reasons and decided to let sleeping dogs lie.

    1. hey hey…it’s against THE L-WORD RELIGION to stop right here….u are on probation….but if you post another chapter or 2 tonight…you will be honored and taken off of probation…take it or leave it….Morethansatisfied…

    2. I kept thinking as I was reading the girls admission of love that at the end of the chapter it was going to be all a dream. So glad it wasn’t. Loved that Bette was bold with asking Tina how she felt. But I am so dense because if someone called me baby and told me to embrace my sexuality I wouldn’t have thought anything of it. However, Tina’s dream, I would have definately picked up on that. I guess your Bette just has good gaydar. Beautiful writing by the way.

    3. Oh Yea….you are on a roll…Instead of 7 years in a relationship…why not 20? I have a couple of friends that have been together since high school and they are now in their early fifties. How often does one find the love of their life so young and stay together for the rest of their lives? You can tell by the way they look at each other, the spart that brought them together is still there. Awesome
