The Roommates – Fast Forward to 2019: Chapter 1

“Bette!” she heard; her confused gaze now drawn to the sound of her name. She looked around and finally met Alice’s sun-glassed face. Alice was sitting behind the wheel of a pearly-white Mini Cooper with a black hardtop.

The woman in the bright vest yelled at her. “Ma’am, you have to move. This is pick-up only. There’s no idling here. Either get in the car or tell your party to drive on!”

Alice yelled at her too. “Bette, what are you doing? Put your bag in the back and hop in!”

“My bag?” Bette whispered aloud. Then she felt it. The hard-plastic handle in her right hand. She looked down to find a red, hard-shell rolling upright beside her legs. “What the fuck?” she whispered. Gone were her traveling jeans and sneakers. Black stove-pipe slacks widened toward her ankles and a pair of shiny dark-red pumps were on her feet. Absently, she wiped at her nose. The blood was gone.

“Tina?” she asked, suddenly realizing that she was now standing alone. She gazed around frantically. Where was Tina? And Dana? What the hell was going on?

    “T?!” called Bette.

Alice jumped out of her car and stood at the driver’s side; her door still open. “Bette Porter, if you don’t get your ass in this car right now!”

Bette jumped as the whistle sounded again. Her feet started moving and she placed the rolling upright into Alice’s open trunk before climbing into the passenger seat of the car. Alice hopped in and pulled away from the curb, tossing a defiant middle finger at the parking guard.

“What a bitch!”, she said, her eyes focused on maneuvering through the traffic at LAX.

“What’s up with you anyway? You were just standing there.”, said Alice.

Bette felt edgy and nauseous. And confused. Very, very confused. “Alice?”

Alice shrugged. “I know, I know. It was a long flight. Did you sign that artist? You look like you didn’t sleep a wink. Meetings all day, parties all night, right?”

Bette’s dark eyes looked all around and into the backseat. It was empty. There was just the two of them. When she turned back around Alice was driving toward the airport exit sign.

    1. I must say i absolutely not expected this turn of event. And for now i don’t know how i feeling about it. Very unexpected.

I really loved the story about young students Bette and Tina in 2005 and how they were in love to each other. And what happen to that Tina? Her Bette just died on her hands in that universe or what? What happen to them – i like, no i need to know.

    2. I’m think i’m up and would continue to follow this story, but i would be very grateful if you’ll explain in this storyline destiny of those Tibette in 2005 after that Bette’s collapse

    3. This was a complete surprise!! I wonder if The L Word – Generation Q will use something like this for its story line? We are now in an alternative universe where Tina Kennard just doesn’t exist or if she does, she out there among the 8 billion people who reside on the earth. Okay, so Bette has gone from age 18 or 19 to age 33 or 34 in this story? Or perhaps she’s older than that? In this new universe there is Alice and there is Dana, but Dana left “us”. Why does Bette have a portrait of Dana in her home? She must be someone very important in Bette’s alternative life to be the only photo or portrait in the house except for the picture of Melvin, Kit and David?

I’m with Zhenya. There must be some explanation as to what happened to 2005 universe for Bette and Tina.

    4. I’m intrigued! Keep ’em coming, I can’t wait to read more. But I do hope that Bette will be able to find Tina. Or Tina will find Bette as she experienced the same ride through a vortex…or whatever it is :-)
