    The Silent Treatment

They ate in silence. They let the wind caress their skin. Tina looked at her watch and pointed at the trail. Bette nodded.

They continued up the mountain. It was a playground for their senses. There were boundless fragrant shrubs and the panoramic views got more beautiful the higher they trekked. They saw a sign directing them towards stairs that would take them straight to the summit. Bette stretched out her hand indicating for Tina to go first. Tina nodded.

Bette wanted to watch Tina scramble up the stone stairs from behind. Bette rolled her eyes at herself. She licked her lips as Tina looked over her shoulder. Tina scrunched her nose at Bette. Bette blushed.

Bette put her hands up as Tina slipped on the loose gravel. Bette pushed Tina up by the butt. When Tina reached the flat area, she turned around and extended her hand to Bette. Bette grabbed Tina’s delicate hand and climbed up to where Tina was standing.

Bette nodded. Tina blinked because she couldn’t wink.

There was a memorial to an Eagle Scout who died on the trail at the age of 16 from falling and hitting his head. He felt okay and continued hiking only to die shortly afterward from a cerebral concussion and internal bleeding.

Tina gasped and immediately started crying. Bette instinctively pulled Tina in for a hug. Tina cried on Bette’s shoulder while Bette rubbed her back. Tina wrapped her arms around Bette until she stopped crying. Tina took a deep breath and a step back. Bette wiped the tears from Tina’s face. Tina leaned into the touch. They both took a deep breath and slowly exhaled.

Bette looked into Tina’s eyes. Tina nodded.

They walked a little further to Inspiration Point. The views were impressive. They could see the Pacific Ocean, the iconic Balanced Rock and Tri-Peaks. It was spectacular. Bette beamed. Tina was happy Bette was happy.

They stared at the view for 30 minutes. Just them and nature.

Bette grabbed Tina’s hand. Tina looked at Bette. Bette’s eyes were still forward. Bette squeezed Tina’s hand and screamed.

    “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”

Tina looked at Bette with wide eyes. Bette squeezed her hand again and pulled on it. Tina looked at Bette and then turned forward and screamed.

    1. Of course, I loved the chapter but these two need to stop with the assuming and second guessing. I’m usually all over Alice for sticking her nose in where it doesn’t belong, but I am with her on this one. I know we can’t just snap our fingers and voila they are magically back together. They need to work at it and hard, through all the hurt feelings and anger. They need to get their stuff together and shit or get off the pot. Post soon my friend.
