The Slow Burn
Bette exhales deeply, running a hand through her damp hair as she sits on the edge of her bed, her mind racing. She knows Tina is nervous, and she’s determined to handle this moment with care.
When Tina emerges a few minutes later, her hair still damp but now dressed in Bette’s clothes, something inside Bette clenches. Tina looks…. soft. Smaller somehow, wrapped in fabric that carries Bette’s scent. Vulnerable, yet stunningly beautiful.
Tina glances around uncertainly, not sure where to sit.
Bette: (gentle, reassuring) You can sit there if you want. Or here… wherever you’re comfortable.
Tina hesitates but chooses to sit on the chair near the desk, curling her arms around herself as if trying to hold something in. Bette remains on the bed, sensing that space is still important. A tense silence lingers between them, filled only by the rhythmic sound of rain outside.
Tina: (quietly) This is…. different for me. I’ve never felt like this before.
Bette leans forward slightly, her voice a careful whisper.
Bette: Like what?
Tina exhales shakily, looking down at her fingers as they twist in the fabric of Bette’s sweatshirt.
Tina: (softly) Vulnerable. Scared. But… safe at the same time.
Something in Bette’s chest tightens at that. She swallows, nodding slowly.
Bette: Tina, I don’t want you to feel scared with me. I know I’ve made mistakes. I know I have a past that people talk about. But with you…. (pauses, voice thick with sincerity) it’s different. You set the pace. I won’t do anything you’re not comfortable with. I promise.
Tina looks up at her, her eyes brimming with unshed tears. She tries to speak but her voice catches, and she looks away, wiping at her face with the sleeve of the sweatshirt.
Bette: (concerned) Hey, hey… what’s wrong?
Tina shakes her head, but the tears start to fall freely. Bette gets up from the bed and kneels in front of her, placing a hand on the arm of the chair but not touching her directly.
Tina: (through tears) I’m just… I’m so scared of getting hurt again. I thought Eric was the one, and then he…. he cheated on me. I don’t know if I can go through that again.
Bette: (softly) Tina, I can’t erase what Eric did to you, and I can’t promise I’ll be perfect. But what I can promise is that I’ll do everything I can to be honest with you and to protect your heart. you’re not just some fleeting thing to me. you’re… everything I didn’t know I was looking for.

One of my favorite lines – “We’d be the dog eared page someone can’t bear to forget. A story that lingers, long after the last word is read. The kind that refuses to fade, because love like this doesn’t belong to time it belongs to forever.” Exactly Bette & Tina.
I’m loving their romantic, sweet interactions. The Slow Burn – I’m here for it. Worried about what Henry will do…
Great story!
Thank you so much
That line is one of my favorites too I really wanted to capture the kind of timeless, unforgettable love Bette and Tina share. I’m so happy you’re enjoying the slow burn and their growing connection. And yes, Henry is definitely the dark cloud looming over their sunshine. Things are about to get even more intense.
Love this story! Can’t wait to read about all the challenges ahead :(
Thank you so much I’m so glad you’re enjoying the story. The road ahead is filled with twists, turns, and tender moments can’t wait to share what’s coming next
Hello, I love this fic. I almost had a heart attack when I read the first chapter, I thought it was going to be a softer beginning. I love their beginning story though. I have a feeling that Henry is going to get aggressive with Tina in an effort to show her they should be together. If not that he will probably try to set Bette up, so Tina thinks she is cheating. I hope she can see through an attempt like that. If he does get aggressive with Tina, I hope Bette catches him in the act and kicks his butt. I am thoroughly enjoying this, please continue.
Thank you so much I know the first chapter came in like a storm definitely not the soft beginning you might’ve expected But I’m so glad you’re loving Bette and Tina’s origin story.
And wow, you’re very on point with your predictions Let’s just say Henry’s not done causing trouble, but Bette’s not backing down either. There are some intense moments ahead, but also a lot of growth,
Thank you again for reading and sharing your thoughts it truly means the world More coming soon.
